Thinking of buying a used XTX. I ride about 80% trail / 20% off trail.Ride an 136" RX 1 , looking for a little more off trail ability without going to another brand. There's an 09 w/4800 miles for sale local @ $6000.good price?
Heard about the 'twitchy" handling. have some simmons ski's, will they help?
The small gas tank, is it an issue? I do big mile saddlebag trips sometimes.
Is this a "competitive"off trail sled? some magazines seem to think not.
Will this be as reliable as my RX ?Any other issues? thanks for any input

I just did the opposite, I traded my 08 nytro short track for a apex xtx. The Nytro was great for ditch banging and quick trips. But long days on the Nytro just really kind of sucked. It was cold, heavy steering, the twitchyness can be fixed however the price of that is heavy steering. Reliability is as good as your RX1. In fact the fuel injection is great when it come to cold starts and just overall throttle response. I'm not sure if your RX1 was fuel injected. The one thing I think I will miss about the Nytro is the sort of stand up ride. It was so easy to come off the seat from a sitting position to a stand up position. Which was great on whooped out trails.

Off-trail performance can be improved a great deal, by swapping out the track to a 1.75" or 2". Since you ride trails I probably would go with the 1.75". If you ride on a lot of hard pack then a set of ice scratchers helps reduce hyfax wear and cool the engine.
Yes your Simmons skis will help reduce darting.
Also the stock skis can be shimmed at the rear of the ski mount rubber and reduces darting as well.

I just picked up an 11 xtx with 1070 miles for $7200 in june (summer has been taking forever
) with some aftermarket additions. Can't wait to ride it in the snow as i'm upgrading from an 02 viper. love the feel of the ergonomics in the shop, can't wait to see how it feels in action. I am from the Mid MI area. Good luck with your search

Last year i picked up my 09 xtx with 740 miles on it for 7000 . I am in bay city lol.
Because of the crap winter i only got 350 miles on it last winter.
I still love my dads viper the nytros have some week spots. my top speed on trail was 85 mph but my friend rode it up to 91mph.
Wish I had more ride time on it.

I had 2004 RX1 and traded in in for a 2010 nytro xtx I was alot happier. Don't get me wrong the RX1 was a real speed demon and I had no issues with it but not a nimble sled for off the trail at all peroid....The only issues I had with my nytro was the hafax wear which was sloved when I replaced the original wheels with the excell wheels and my hot grips burned out my very first ride which made for a cool day on the hands..Once I had those issues solved I was very happy, the sled handles way better than those RX1 chassis off the trail IMO.
