Since the birth if my sled I have been wondering why I'm tearing Woody's Signature Series studs out of my track. They were installed properly using Big Nuts in a pattern recommended by Woody's. On a yearly basis I would check the torque to make sure it was right. I'm pretty much a "grandpa" kind of trail rider. I don't ditchbang and I don't lake race, but I do ride a lot.

I selected the length of the stud using Woody's online application chart:

http://www.wiem.com/app_guide/step6.aspx

You'll see that the indicated lug height is 1.25" when in reality it's 1.0". I discovered the true lug height when I checked the Yamaha fiche and also measured the track on my sled.

This issue all started on Thursday when my track started coming apart and a stud went thru my front heat exchanger. I started looking at track options, thinking all along I had a 1.25" Ripsaw then much to my horror I see that I have 1.0".

It's no wonder I've been ripping studs out...dang things are .25" too long!

I've sent an email to Woody's detailing the situation, and I'm interested to see what they say. Will keep everybody posted.

Hopefully they will at the very least correct the error on their webpage. I wonder how many sled owners this effects?

If you have an Apex you should have the 1.25 track. The measurment is from inside the track to the top of the lug as far as I know. I have 1.450 studs in my track. They are about 3/8 of an inch beyond the lug. Haven't had any issues.

Just noticed you have a Vector. Not 100% on the track on that one.

Just done some digging. Everything I found says your sled has the 1.25 ripsaw as a stock track.

I have a 2005 Vector. I just went and looked at other Yamaha sled fiches and they all say "1"". So what is the right way to measure lug height...from the inside or outside of the track?

Everything I found listing stock specs for your sled says 1.25. I'm 90% sure you measure from the inside of the track. I'll measure the track on my Apex tomorrow to confirm this unless some else beats me to it.

Moderators please delete this thread. The stud height is correct on the sled. No more than .125" sticks above the lugs.

Yamaha measures from the outside of the track. Camoplast & Woody's measure from the inside of the track.

Glad you figured it out. Good luck with the cooler issue. I always worry about mine as well. I tighten them per spec at least 5 times a season.

Well my "stud thru the exchanger" disaster continues........

Woody's called me today and I sent them pictures of my track, studs and backing plates. Turns out that the backers that somebody sold me (going to try to backtrack to see where I got them from) are not Woody's brand and will not mate up properly to the Woody's Signature studs. The were not large enough in diameter and did not have a large enough inside dome so the track would squish properly.

The dealer I bought it from installed the studs. I have to see if they bought them for me.

My life the last 60 days has been surreal.....

Mom had 2 strokes
I roll and total out truck (I'm "lucky" to be alive)
Mo in Law dies
I spend my 50th b-day at a funeral
Get downsized outta my job
Stator pukes and sled and warranty repair takes two weeks
Blown track throws stud thru exchanger (no funds for repair)

My sledding season is toast and it isn't even February!!!

Wow, that's a rough strech. My deepest sympathies for your losses.

I feel your pain with the heat exchanger, just went through the same scenario with the heat exchanger. Was able to have mine welded after removing the track. Much cheaper than replacing.

Hope 2010 gets better 4 U!
