2012 xtx 171studs Simmons skis gen 2
270 pound rider running hard on the michigan upTrails . Also love to play in deep powder .
This sled rides rough on starter bumps and out of control on anything bigger we are running fast.
My last yamaha was a 2008 apex Ltxgt
With a zx2 suspension.144 " 1.5 cobra track studded. Gen2 Simmons skis Mountain performance supercharged. This snowmobile handled great.

I have a '13 Apex XTX, 171 1.340" studs, I weigh 205 w/o gear. Torsion on soft, limiters currently full out. Ski springs at medium settings, front skid a little softer from medium and the transfer rods untouched. My sled will handle the stutters w/o any problems, just add a little speed and glides right over, big moguls, well that depends on how much abuse I feel confident on dishing on her, but never out of control. I do feel that the sled is kind of tippy into fast corners, so I was thinking of loosening the front springs to hopefully lower the center of gravity. Everyone is going to want to know you current sled suspension settings before they chime in. So......

My settings are front springs 132mm
Front spring rear suspension 126mm
Rear springs set on 2
Compression damping 6 clicks
would be greatl would be greatly appreciated

Factory medium settings for the front ski shocks are 130mm and the front skid shock is 122mm. I would personally reduce you front down to the 130 or below, and the front skid shock to at the max 122mm. I think you have everything set too high and making for a rougher than necessary ride which is giving you a hard rebound/bounce effect. Hopefully others will chime in. `

Front Springs 131.5mm, Front skid shock at 117mm and 6 clicks out, Torsion spring medium, Transfer at Min.
I weigh 230 dressed. Sled handles big bumps and studders very well. I agree you should turn down front skid shock.

I got rid of mine and went with the 2013 Vector GT LTX and it is the best handling trail sled I have ever ridden. Handles studders and bumps. It is the first Yamaha sled that actually feels light when riding in the trails. If you ride trails there is no better sled Yamaha makes then this sled PERIOD. :bling

yes they can be great handling/riding sleds if you take the time to set it up. ;)! I was 2nd guessing my purchase last year but now that i tweaked the suspension and added the tuner skies (dual 6 inch carbides) to my 2011 XTX it has made a world of diifference. these skies should be stock on all yamaha sleds. now i can keep up with my son on the SRX and my buddies on the new MXZ's in tight or rough trails without slowing down and trying to take the corners. it now goes where i point it. make sure you take a lot of the transfer out otherwise you will not be able to corner. with the EPS you can add a lot of weight to the front to get it to handle. good luck

I had the same problem with my 06 attak. had the shocks revalved for rough trails and a stonger spring for my wieght. made a world of difference. the negetive side to the story is I kept cracking the rear suspension arm mounting tabs. I ended up with the Expert X skid. No more breakage and don't need to slow down in the rough stuff. I also moved the 136" Expert X skid back 3.5" and put on a 144" cobra.

Found front shock on the rear suspension spring to tight.
Making it ride like a pogo stick.
Also found drag link bent binding up steering . Could not tell with power steering. Found it when doing alignment.
Replaced my gen 2 Simmons skis with gen 3.

What spring measurements did you use?
