Wondering if there is a way to push/pull start a Viper sled in a situation where your starter fails?
Kinda like how you would push a dirt bike, then jump on it and let the clutch out and get it to run...
Wondering if there is anyway to do this on the viper?

Best of luck! Prolly the highest compression engine on the snow.

Interesting video!! They just wrapped that around the primary? Looks a bit dangerous but apparently they knew what they were doing. (I guess lol)
Any up close video on how they attached to the primary?

The pull start idea may work, but only if it is non starter gear issue. If the gear splits you have a bunch of crap in the crankcase and should not run the engine.

Well they knew what they were doing, but are also very dumb.. Lucky they didn't break the primary and shaft right off. I wouldn't ever recommend trying this on your own sled that you paid your money for!

Agree - looked like a disaster waiting to happen.

I suppose if the sled was already warm and at operating temps and you had a strong rope and the upper biddy strength the bench press a car you may have a chance of pull starting it if you don't throw out your back first. Just remember that if your starter does go, chances are teeth are broke off and down in that oil pan floating around. The mess on the oil pump is fine enough that a gear tooth wouldn't fit thru, but smaller metal objects, damaging size objects, could fit thru. If it happens I think your safest bet is to not start it. Yamaha will warranty the starter, they may not warranty the engine if it's made known you started it after this happened.

Worked good on the phazer for us as well, wouldn't want to do it on a cold morning, but worked good after lunch etc. Not sure Id want to try it on the viper/7000 though.

My starter went out last weekend. I made a dozen attempts to start it using the strap in the tool kit. It wouldn't start. Then I got the idea of doing what they showed in the video. I just couldn't bring myself to try it. I thought surely I would bend or break something.

I know a guy who claims to have pull started an Apex. He admits the sled was hot at the time.

The Apex is less displacement than a Viper.I know a guy who claims to have pull started an Apex. He admits the sled was hot at the time.

To answer the question as you asked it.........no.......even if you could get the track to grab enough traction to move(unlikely) there's no way to get the clutches to grab the belt enough to transfer that to the crank........the CVT is only set up to transfer power in one direction.........2 strokes generate reverse by actually running the motor backwards........
Well it is not fun to do on the trail but if you remove the primary clutch spring the sheaves will grab the belt and you can pull start it with another sled towing you. I have done it on a Polaris 800 Pro R. Be careful cause the sled will creep a idle but as long as you keep the brake on it will not get away from you. If you are stranded out n the trail it will at least get you back.
