Just curious what most CDN's do when it comes to buying parts and accessories?

Do you normally shop locally or do you use American suppliers in order to save some money?

I am currently wanting to replace my bogey wheels, add the 4th wheel kit, purchase a marginal snow wheel kit, plus purchase some accessories.

For those that have purchased state side, was it worth while, did you save money and what American dealers, part suppliers did you use.
I live in Southern Ontario.

Same here. Royal Distributing is good and reasonable shipping. I've gotten stuff state side but shipping and customs fees can be a real pain sometimes. I've also discovered it is cheaper to buy oem parts at Port Yamaha and pay shipping and customs than it is to buy from my local dealer. Canadian prices on oem parts is stupid.

Thumbs up from Royal here, very quick with shipping too.

If shopping from the States, buy from a Distributor who'll ship to you via USPS. You will usually only get charged $5 for duty. Stay away from getting things shipped from UPS and other couriers like them, unless you are aware of the duties fees beforehand. There's nothing worse than buying a $50 part from the States and getting it to your door for over $100.

definately stay clear of UPS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

avoid ups for shure.

i get good deals at my local dealer, so that is where i try 1st for my parts. sometimes though i had to get it from across the border because they where no availible here when i bought them.

as to your buying new wheels, i recomend the slydog real cool wheels. very happy with mine and now there is a canadian distributor for them. you can look at them on ulmerracings site.

Sorry gents, but "UPS" and "USPS" are 2 separate entities....

USPS (United States Postal Service) is like Canada Post. Government owned and slooooooooowwwwwwww. Trust me, I've ordered stuff from Canada and they both can be very slow. But then sometimes they are the fastest. It's weird. It's most always the least expensive way to ship.

UPS is United Parcel Service, also known as "Big Brown." They are private and compete with with Fed Ex, etc. Usually faster, but not always.

I don't think there is any confusion. If shipping over the border it is best to avoid everyone but USPS. The reason being is that these companies charge brokerage fees to process items thru customs. These brokerage fees can be $40+. I have used UPS before and did the brokering myself. It is pretty easy and you can avoid the extra fee by doing it yourself but for less of a hassle it is best to just use the US Postal Service.

Thanks everyone, I do know "NOT" to use UPS, way to expensive by the time all is said and done(been there done that!)

I phoned Port Yamaha yesterday and I believe the gent said they use USPS which was good to hear.

The prices are definitely cheaper than what I can get them for up here, including Royal Dis.

I do have a local sled/motorcycle salvage shop I go to who usual beat Royal's prices so I will get some quotes(provided they can get the parts?) and compare the 2.

Just for comparison I can save almost $10 dollars per wheel (need 6 small ones and 4 large ones) plus about $40-$50 on a rear snow flap, $40 on ice scratchers, and approx $40 on a marginal snow kit. With those prices it is going to be hard to beat?

The only thing I have to figure out is the exchange rate and shipping fees to know if it is going to be cheaper?
Thanks for all the replies, appreciate it ;)!

Exactly UPS sucks big time they are ripping Canadians off big time with their extravagant brokerage fees and they are really not much faster than USPS. If I order anything from the US if they send UPS only its a deal breaker for me. USPS is the only way to go when you order stuff into the country. I order stuff through JC Whitney when they have free shipping to Canada and with them once you check out that is the only price you pay to your door no nasty surprise bill.

I ordered something from JC Whitney last year and was VERY impressed with the speed and low cost of shipping to Canada. They used an obscure method of delivery, not USPS, UPS, or any other courier. I think it's called "freight" shipping. It was much faster and cheaper than anything I EVER ordered from the States.

I use Royal Distributing for maintenance Items like bogey wheels or sliders that are a 1/4 the price of the dealer and for performance parts I use Pioneer Performance just place your order in mid september and Bruce will have to you in 3 weeks
