I know this topic has been talked about and I searched and have read the tech articles but I still cant get the rear skid (2005 RX-1 ER) bolts back in. The front bolts are in, the control rod bolt is removed (front one not back one removed, but I dotn think it should matter) limiter strap is removed, RA cable removed and these f'n things will not go back in.
Can you guys help me out.
thanks

I've only ever done it with the rear transfer rod bolt out and never had a problem. Not sure if it would help.
When I was under the sled I wondered if it made a difference. When I took the skid out, I removed the rear bolt but when putting it back together I left the front out instead, on accident.
Does anyone know if this really makes a difference?
thanks man

No doesn't matter which bolt. How close is it to going? You can use a punch or phillps screwdriver in the back holes of the rear drop down bracket to pry it in place. I use a hoist to do mine and you have to get sled at just the right height so that when you lift rear arm up fully the holes line up.

I dont have the mono-shock, m10, but i've always left the rear bogies off, they catch too much on the nubs on the inside of the track. I also soak the inside of the track with lube like wd-40. I also have an electric hoist, I use wood blocks in different positions under the track and lower the sled on the block to get proper bolt alignment.

I am wondering if it is possible to just lengthen the control rod. That way you do not end up fighting the control rod's bolt to reinstall it.

Put the front bolts in first. Adjust the monoshock cam adjust to its weakest setting because you are going to compress the suspension with a ratchet strap. You need to get the suspension a close as possible with lining up to the tunnel bolt holes with a rear sled jack and possibly a 2x4 under the track. Raise and lower the sled with the 2x4 in different places to see what it does to the suspension lining up. Once close you need to fish a ratchet strap through the track window at the rear of the sled and attach it to a spot that will move the suspension in the direction you want when you tighten the strap and by hooking the other end to the rear bumper. That monoshock suspension is difficult to compress, it will take quite a bit of force. You may have to use two straps, one on each side of the monoshock. I usually do this myself, but definitely helps to have a second person to eyeball the lining up and to get the bolt in quick as it lines up. You can also look up other write-ups by clicking on TY Tech from the menu at the top of the page, then click on snowmobile tech, then chasis/rear suspension will bring you to a menu of many common solutions.
thanks for all your help guys. Thrasher, good idea with the ratchet strap. I was close to getting things to line up (about an inch) but when I would push the skid up the track would hit the tunnel. If the suspension would compress I can get it to work. I'll try the ratchet strap (s).
I was one the right track with the 2x4 and lifting and lowering the rear of the sled. I bet the ratchet will work.
thanks again guys youre always helpful

Thrasher, thanks again for the tie down idea. I did it last night and took my about 20 minutes to get the 2 bolts in.
It helped by putting a 2x4 under the rear of the track.
THANKS GUYS, the RX is almost done its pre season maintenence. All new rear bushings, 7 grease fittings welded and arms repainted, and tuning fork billet rear wheels. Hopefully I'll be able to get some miles out of this rear suspension.
