cant keep new batery charged

The battery is located under the air box. When the engine is running it's charged by the stator which is located inside the RH side of the engine. The RS sleds have two leads that run off of the battery to the RH side of the frame (just in front of the oil tank) that can be used for charging or jumping the battery. With a fully charged battery (~12volts) start the sled and recheck battery voltage with a dc volt meter (you can do this at the battery leads). You should get ~14V volts with the engine running if the charging system is working properly. If not the stator will need to be checked to determine if it's bad or you have a bad voltage regulator. If it's charging but your battery won't hold a charge, replace the battery.

Open your hood and look at the very front of the nose. There is a small box about the size of a pack of cards. Two connectors. Check them. I have had an issue with mine and it was one of the connectors was damaged and I didn't even know it. I think that is the voltage rectifier or something like that but it didn't allow my battery to charge. Just another easy option to look at before a stator.
