Carb difference between 03 and 04/05

Pulled the carbs off both my sleds this week for their annual cleaning of the jets. The 05 has O-rings that seat into the bowls making the bowls difficult to remove when they dry out, my 03 does not have these, Any idea why they are there on the 04 and 05's? Anyone know if this is the correct part? I think part #49 in the 05rx1 picture is the part I need to order if I replace them just not sure if I need them. My 03 is much easier to get apart than the 05. As you can see from the pictures thats about the only difference I can see so guessing thats the part.

03's that I have done all had the o-ring on them.

No part # on the bowl listed on the Yamaha Parts Listing (at least that I could find) shows the jets as being the same #. The only other difference I could see is part #14 (holder for the main jet) which has a slot cut into it for the O ring to sit in.

Think I'd get in trouble if I just took the deteriorated o-rings off next year when i pull it apart. All it does is create a seal in that cylinder it sits into. Since the gas can flow through that other channel at the base of the bowl anyway whats the purpose of the o-ring other than it prevents gas from flowing into that chamber from the top side.

Maybe whoever did your carbs last did not install them or lost them. There was an update of the carbs for bogging after landing a bump float bowls i believe.

it wont hurt anything to have them removed, that was added for side hilling on the RX1s if I am not mistaken to keep the fuel in the bottom side of the jet... it forces the fuel thru this little bleeder hole from the bowl to the o-ringed jet.

just found it in the 04 tech book, the float bowl chamber shape and main jet holder are changed to improve fuel delivery during steep hill climbing angles. The 03 and 04 parts are not interchangeable. In my eye Steve as long as you dont go out west with your sled you will be fine.

I remember that but I think the recall was for mountain sleds only could very well be that they did it too all rx1's after that and my spring ordered 03 was left alone since it had never been a problem with the 121's

Thanks Tom never had an issue with the 03 so guess I'll take them off next year when I have it apart, sure will make getting the bowls off a whole lot simpler.

Wondering if anyone has indeed left the o rings off of the main jet on the new style bowls?? Any issues or not?? I can't see that they really perform a function.

I just replaced mine for the third time and agree - it is a pain!! My regular dealer has never stocked them and neither did another dealer. They stick to the bowl and make it hard to remove. I got some o rings from a diesel injector pump repair shop last year (green) but they were a bit fatter and the bowl cuts them slightly and requires some force to seat. There is no chamfer on the edge of the bowl so it is not a good design. I usually put a bit of lube on them so the bowls go on easier.

Anyone else??

I have yet to replace mine although I do have the parts, the ones I currently have installed were pretty much shot so I don't think they are doind much at all. I will be taking whats left of them completely out the next time I take the carbs apart, will let you know.

I do not run the orings on my 03 MTN with the updated float bowls and never had a problem.

I have been running my 04 warrior without them for a year now with no problem what so ever. They are a total pain to get the bowls both on and off, and a bit spendy to replace considering what you get. Leave them off.

This is very good information to know. I couldn't understand what real function they served since they would only seal the top side of the main jet and force the jet to draw from the bottom. Only possibility could be hard jumps which would force fuel up and out of the cavity the jet sits in(?)

on the early order 03 s (like mine) did not come with a closed float bowel and there was an up date kit for the mtn sleds the kit was new flaot bowls new needle jets and four o rings. i just change my carbs to the newer type. due to a cracked carb body . and i had to change the needle jets back to the 03 ones as the 03 needle jets will take both large and small round jets the later type would only take the small round jets as the needle jet was counter bored to rase the jet so the large size jet would not seat against needle jet. but all of the parts were inter changable with out a problem .
