I went and bought some new vacuum line for my manometer and it was much easier to synch the carbs. Close enough.

Ok 530 miles on, I changed oil and filter, adjusted the chain (it was alittle loose), put some dielectric stuff on the battery terms and plug caps, reduced the weight transfer, increased the preload on the monoshock to 6, and synched the carbs. Is there anything else I should do beside ECP, Evac, HH clutch kit, 8" carbides, and 96 studs down the middle?

theres always more to do. freddy's stage 2 porting job, cpr turbo, more studs, velcro for the seat of your pants, nos, and on and on and on you do have unlimited funding right? just kidding, merry xmas ;)!

how far off was your carb sync? Im having trouble on my 03. where did you get the sync tool

Lippy,
I should have taken a pic from when I first hooked it up. All carbs should all be within 2 cmHg of each other. When I first hooked it up # 2 was off by about 5 cmHg. I purchased this Carb II tuner from a place in the UK for 80 bucks. Do a search for supertuner then look at his profile and contact him. From what I have been reading on here he sells them for about the same price. Under one of his posts there are directions on how to synch the carbs on the RX. I also posted a link under one of the carb synching posts to an FZ1 website with great pics and directions on how to synch carbs. I have done my bikes numerous times and had no problem, but with the RX you have to be fast or hook the two vacuum hoses coming off the fuel pump to #1 and 4 carbs back up periodically, or you run out of fuel. Also if you live anywhere near Appleton Wi I would be happy to stop by some evening and synch them for you (it will cost you a beer or two).

when syncing your carbs, remove tank vent line(located behind secondary) and blow into it, this pressure will fill carbs up till your done. you can plug or clamp line to hold pressure. dont use an air compresser, it dosent need much. also, dont overheat motor and make sure your in a well ventilated area. ;)!

thanks for the info I just bought a carb syncer off e-bay. a vacuume one so as soon as I get it I will give it a whirl. how often do you have to sync it? and double thanks for the offer I live in wauconda il. its a little far to travel. but thanks anyways. how close are they suposed to be?

Rhoag, I have the very Morgan carb tuner II. I also bought mine from British Cycle. I haven't used it yet but I am headed out to the shop to use it this morning.
I like the idea of the unit using stainless steel rods in place of the mercury also.
I guess I'll see how it works

Do you have any tips?

Frostbite,
Sorry with the holidays I didn't get to your post in time. You are probably done by now. The carb tuner II works great, just use the restrictors (less bounce in your readings) @ approx 90 cm from the tuner and then 10cm to the carbs. When you are done using it take the hoses off the tool when in storage so that they don't stretch out. With all the other info on this site about synching carbs anyone can do it. It's great to have a site for reference like this, so you don't have to reinvent the wheel everytime you do something.
How did it turn out Frostbite?
Lippy,
I plan to check mine before each season and after any mod that effects the carbs. Make sure all vacuum lines are equal length and that they all seal tightly on the manifold and the tool.

rhoag, it turned out just fine. It's easy to get too finicky about the settings. My idle seems to change (especially as the sleds running out of fuel).
I noticed synching 2 to 3 was super easy. Bringing 4 on line didn't change much but when I brought 1 on line it didn't even register initially. When all of them were being done together #2 had to be cranked down a little from its original setting but now they are all the same.

Frosty

Yes, if you are a perfectionist synching the carbs will drive you crazy. That's one of the nice things about the carb tuner II it has restrictor in the line that reduces the bouncing. My book says they are good to go as long as they are within 2 cmHg of each other. I was probably alitle to cautious and went out the next day warmed up the sled and hooked up again just to verify they were good to go. Glad it worked out. Now it's time to ride to see and feel the effect.
