I'm looking for some guidance from those who know the Phazer better than me!

I've been a Yamaha guy for a long time but have mainly owned Apex's Viper's and currently a SW.

I bought my 13 year old son a 2009 Phazer RTX with under 2k miles. He was riding in the field for the first time of the year with a buddy. He claims the sled just shut off. He described it as "it sounded like something got sucked up in it dad". . I rode out to the sled to find oil pouring out of the skid plate. Towed it home and pulled the skid plate down to find large chunks of what I believe to be pieces of the crank case. I'm assuming it threw a rod through the side of the case but I cannot see between the heat exchanger and backside of the motor.

A few questions I have are:

1. Is this a known issue with these sleds or one others have experienced before?

2. Does anyone have a used engine for sale?

3. Is it worth tearing this motor apart and replacing what is broken?

4. How much could be made parting it out?

My 09' threw a rod in the first 500 miles, fixed under warranty. The dealer said it looked like the rod itself failed and seen no signs of oil starvation. Seem to be vary rare, but it happens. At this point I'd just toss in another used engine an call it good. The 10'+ have a better low oil pressure shutdown system that kills the motor sooner if no oil pressure is present (layed over/upside down) some guy have reported rolling there 07'-09' and the engine just kept running.
