Chain Case Failure?

Just tightened mine at the 500 mark. Tightener screwed all the way in..no tighten. :o|

Hopefully hold up for the giveaway ride, then to dealer.

I just did my 500 mile service today and checked the chain tighter and found it to be way the heck lose and all my chaincase had no oil in it.... So I tightened up the chain and added oil and finished everything up thought I would go for a ride but got half mile from home and lost all power to the track in forward direction and here a grinding like noise and also lost all of my chaincase oil that I just put in. The odd thing is I have reverse but I hear a load clunking noise. So sounds like a phone call to the dealer is in need of tommarow

you people are making me so damned nervous. I have a trip planned next weekend and I am at 300 miles on mine. I tightened it @ 150 miles and it was 2.5 turns loose, when I checked it at my 300 mile service, it was still fine.

Hate to rub salt in a open wound but remember when Yamaha assured everyone a couple of months ago that they were overseeing the cat production process and previous problems with cats were all resolved for Viper. Ya right. Yamaha screwed us. Jerks. :o|

I have 1200 Kms , tightened the chain twice and no issues. I will drive it to the end of the season and than change the oil. Just wondering is there a magnet inside to grab any metal shavings?

Again weird that some people are having these issues and most are not. I have tightened my chain twice with very little turns. Maybe a total of three. Mine seems just fine. I don't get what is going on with some peoples sleds.

The only way to explain it is shite happens.

I wish I had checked mine before the recommended mileage for first service. As it was, it was all covered under warranty, exactly 7 days to be repaired, and my AC didn't sell so I still had a machine to ride.

I consider myself lucky it didn't leave me on the trail and I was able to drive it back to the trailer.

Shite happens !!

My buddy's 2012 Polaris Pro R 800 just blew his main bearing, crank, piston, etc. Parts on back order. Toys break........you wanna play you gotta pay !!

some of us sold both of our machines to buy this one. I checked and adjusted mine at 150. I can only hope that it will be my saving grace.

Im either going to stop reading the forums so I stop being paranoid, or I am going to start a new thread with a poll of the common issues with one option being "no problems at all" just so I can remind myself that there is still hope that this is very isolated.

hmm...

Get on it and ride and let the warranty take care of it if there's a problem.

You may not have any issues at all. Not everyone is having a problem.

I think most of us are having zero problems, it's just that you hear about the bad things way more than you do the good ones.

agreed. I actually went ahead and made that poll thread. I kinda wish I could vote twice tho, cause I have had the right side oil issue as well as the hot start issue, but neither of them would have to leave a person stranded.

That's right. Sure they should allow this sled to go on it's side. I have tipped it to. And could not get to the kill switch in time. But it was an easy fix and took all of five minutes. That's not an issue. And sometimes I let go of the key to early and I have to crank it over again to get it to start, but it fires right up. Again no major issue. These little things will be fixed so big deal. It doesn't make the sled bad. Just a couple of overlooks by yami/cat. I have went on some pretty good trips and you can trust the sled. Maintain it and check things and go. There are a lot of great things about this sled that you can overlook some of the minor issues. No reason to post little things and make people worry. Look at the poll you made most people are having zero problems. I consider my sled problem free. And it is!

agreed. Those are minor annoyances. I think the only real thing I would consider an issue is this chaincase thing, and it seems its fairly isolated. Still, the fact that cat has released an update already makes ya wonder if is not more wide-spread then we think?

When I am out riding I forget all about the chaincase and just ride and have fun. Its when I am sitting at the computer reading 10+ page threads about chaincase failures that I worry. I guess I just need to take the entire winter off and ride the whole season and stop coming here and reading!

:sled1:
