0n my third lx,polaris, have not broke a chain but they are badly streched.no adjustment.usualy, change them at 5 to 6000 miles as they will start to jump teeth.looking at the vk for next sled.
I also used to ride the LX Polaris. The first one, a '94, had 8500 miles and the '00 had 6500 miles. Most of the miles were normal riding but we did maintain about 10 miles of trails. I would guess that 1/2 of the miles were grooming or hauling gear & firewood. I have never had a chain issue but I did check tension twice every season. I would think other drive train issues would come up before the chain would go. On the LX, the jack shaft couplers seemed to be the weak link. The splines would wear out and the shaft would free-wheel. I don't know if other utility sleds have this feature. I guess I had better check my VK.
