I read somewhere on this forum that Yamaha made an error in the chain tension, I loosened my chain 1 1/4 turns out from hand tight and it taps the chain case. I wouldn't recommend running chain too loose.

You only set the spring tension on the self tensioner in the case when you hand tighten it then by cranking it back you clear the tensioner and let the spring do its job.

I would highly recommend doing the 1 1/2 turns out , top gear has a bushing in it , running to tight will wear that out very fast .....

Yes, go 1-1/2 turns loose from "finger tight", this is the correct way. The tensioner has a very long arm and puts a bunch of tension on the chain if you set it like the old Yamaha models. Finger tight, then 1-1/2 turns loose, that is the correct way.
