chaincase gasket leaking - common problem?

Once but it was my fault. I installed it and didn't notice that the gasket wasn't quite seated in one spot just above the fill level so it didn't leak in the garage but drained the chaincase while I was riding. Luckily the noise and smell were noticeable before too many things turned blue.

It's very important to be sure to torque the bolts properly. Not sure on the specs right now, but here are a couple good threads to read.

There was a chain case and gasket update for the older Apexs for this very problem as well as chain adjuster mount stem breakage. The housing, cap, and gasket were all updated.
I would just go with the new gasket initially and see what happens. If it still leaks I would order in the 2008 housing and cover...they are magnesium and are of the updated design.
I installed the complete updated magnesium chain case on my Attak when I first got it.
