I had a slow leaking chaincase on my 2015 sr viper s-tx-dx. Thanks to info provided from other members here, I am going to try the newer superseded seal from Yamaha. (Part # 8JP-G7558-02) I have not put it back together yet to verify that it's fixed, but it appears that it should seal better as it is a little thicker. Here are some pics for comparison. I just bought a used 16 viper and did the whole oil change in the chain case thing . It did not have a leak prior to doing it but noticed it have a fine neat bead of Yamabond sealant applied to it . So I cleaned it spotless and put back together with a new bead of yamabond as I don't want to tear that apart again soon. No leaks... not sure if I had the latest gasket?

Hmm I never used anything other than a little dielectric grease on the seal. Never noticed any sealant on mine. Do all the newer ones use sealant too?

Thats a whole different material too! Nice. Good find and thanks for posting pics. Will add this to FAQ.

When you insert it into the groove on the cover, pay close attention that it is sitting square in the groove.
because its kinda odd shaped, The gasket has a tendency to roll when inserted and if your not paying close attention the sealing surface can get a little twisted

Good point to bring up! It could be the difference between success and failure. ;)!

Wasn't thinking that's right from the factory. When I called the dealer for a service history they said it was in for a chain case leak .? so did they put the updated seal in plus the sealant? or just open up and reseal with old seal and sealant? ( hasn't leaked since). I did the latest Chain case oil change and resealed also with Yamabond.

If the seal color is RED, then it would be the newer seal. Black is the original. The newer seal has approximately .026" more contact surface (height) when installed. This hopefully makes the difference for any future leak occurring. I'll find out soon enough when I reinstall it. I'm waiting on new SS fasteners to arrive because I buggered the head of one trying to remove it. If anyone is thinking about replacing them, they are M6 x 25mm pan head machine screws. The original part number for the black oxide screws from Yamaha is 8JP-RA262-00-00 .......just an FYI Trail Traveler

The seal must be fairly new. I don't think I've seen one with a red seal. Looks like the seal for my 2017 Sidewinder has superseded so it must have been updated in the last year.

It appears that the chaincase itself maybe a little different also. I pulled up the exploded view and found Part #1 (the whole chaincase assy.) and part #41(ring housing) to both be new part numbers.
