As I recall, the spec sheet called for 75w90 GL3 oil. This is an old outdated spec. I wonder about GL5. I really like Cenpeco's Hy Torque with temp tac.
On a related note I wonder why we need a gear lube in the first place? A modern transfer case uses a similar chain and sprockets, bearings, etc and runs ATF. I've put over 1000 RWHP through mine w/o issue. Lately I've started blending in some gear lube because I feel sorry for it, but the only real sign of any issue was the main shaft that I twisted off.
Thinking outside the box, I'm wondering about running a blend of say 10 oz gear lube with 2 oz ATF or maybe even 8 oz to 4 oz in the chaincase?

Used to run ATF with some STP oil treatment, not a problem and chain and gears looked great,of course I was only going 660ft at a time,I'm gonna use some Lucas oil products full synthetic oil stabilizer in my chain case,I've used it before and it worked great, very little chain and gear wear particles when I changed the lube
We had machines at Machine shop I worked for that ran 24hrs a day with Hyvo chains and gears and a lot more torque than a sled. Used a drip system with hydraulic oil. Switched types many times over years. Didn't matter. Chains and gears lasted 10 years or more. Put a cheap gear or bearing in and it was shot within days. If materials of components are right they will last forever. If not there is no oil on earth that will save them.
I'm a synthetic believer. I run Mobil Delvac 1 5w40 (aka Turbo Diesel Truck) in most anything 4 stroke here, but in my 1200+ HP Dmax I run Cenpeco 20w50 petro. The theory is not only better cushioning to shock load, but more cling to parts when stationary ie: less drainback.

TY 4 Stroke God
Back in the day the Yamaha shop I worked at put ATF in all the chaincases and I do not remember any oil failures, but I am gonna run Lucas synthetic gear oil anyways.
