I have always started whatever it is I’m changing oil on and let warm up first. I am about to change oil on my winder . And was just thinking why start first all the dirty oil and contaminants is already sitting in the pan . Why not just open and drain out instead of running it through the engine again and then drain. Am I missing something? Your thoughts

Is it synthetic in there now? Synthetics are quite thin and should drain well even without warming engine.
More importantly, follow my steps and remove lower hoses to get an additional cup or MORE of oil out of system.

The old school thought was to heat the oil so it flows better, but like GypsyDan says, let it rip.
And you're right, all the heavy sub-particles have settled to the bottom anyways.

I'm tentatively in the "don't circulate the dirty oil" camp as well. In the end, surely an absolute trivial difference in the longevity of these great 4-s engines.

But I use XXXXX oil at only $100 a liter and they say with their oil my engine doesn’t even know its ever been turned over much less that it has thousands of miles on it.
I am told not to change oil in my lifetime! But if i do to use their filter.
And when i do change i just unscrew the reverse actuator and call 3 times in a GENTLE LOVING VOICE and it will rise like a cloud and leave the garage and even ozone layer and become space waste.
Steve is that enough oil promises to start another oil debate?
