Question:

Do you have to drop the suspension to change the sliders on 2003 RX1?

The hole looks really small!

The sliders would slide right out the Yokahama tracks!

Also:

How do the exhaust covers come off?

Thanks

Sliders are easy just take a dremel tool and enlarge one window in the track. Loosen track and remove slider retaining screw and slip them right through the enlarged window. You dont have to widen it very much to get the slides through and it sure is a time saver. :D

They will come out the window but its tight...I like the idea of widening one of the windows. Spray them with WD40 before taking them out, and the new ones before they go in...It makes it alot easier...

RX1Yooper  yeah maybe the word slip was'nt accurate it does take a little work I found if I put a screw driver at the front edge (being careful not to touch the rail) I can tap them right out. WD-40 helps to put the new ones on but make sure their warm first or they'll split at the curve when putting back on. I usually have someone assist by putting a little pressure on the front to guide them on cleanly. 8) With as little snow as weve had lately I've had lots of practice on my third set

Changing sliders and removing exhaust covers

Easily done by loosening track, remove front screws, carfully use "box cutter" and widen window slightly, drill a 1/8 hole in end of slider through window, use a medium sized slide hammer with a # 10 long srew adapter threaded into drilled hole and remove. Lubricant helps a lot. Once you get the nack its's a quick job. Naturally you want the sled on a stand.
Pre trim sliders and tap back in with a soft hammer. Use a piece of wood for the last few inches through the hole. Realign the holes and replace the screws (stainless is better). Retighten the track and align.
Remenber to burn in your sliders. i.e. run 20 minutes to heat them up and then cool sliders. Do this twice and it has almost the same effect as heat treating the plastic. Heat a piece of slider material and then run it under water and you will see what I mean.

Convert,
All the posted methods work, but here's how I decided was the best, and fastest.

Put the track in the air. Take the screws out. Use a medium screwdriver to pry the back of the slide through a window. I agree that you don't have to cut the track. Just lube with soap, or grease. Take a long screwdriver, or crow bar, and put through a window, and pry against drive axle. The track will turn backwards, and the hyfax will peel right off.

I never believed the hot-cold curing, but am going to try it on a piece of hyfax. I'll let you all know.

I decided to use an old screw driver heated with a torch, this allowed me to burn the edges of 2 windows for easier hyfax removal & insertion. I did it to 2 of my sleds with the narrow windows. What a time saver !!

even easier

remove the front screw, get a little pry bar or screwdriver and a set of vice grips or 2, pry the hyfax off the rail on the outside, peels like a banana then wd40 and slide the new one in. Waaaay easier

Thanks Guys,

I have done many sets on ny SRX's and a set on my dad's Viper.

I know that they come off easy with vice grips, I was concerned about the size of the track window.

Thanks very much for the ideas!
