On a related subject. I'm putting on a new track. I have everything disassembled but I need to remove the speedo side drive shaft bearing. The problem is the 2 set screws. My 3mm t-handle seems too big and my 2.5 mm too small. This is on both set screws. I bought this sled used so I don't know if the previous owner messed them up or what. My 3mm fits right in the set screw on the collar right next to the bearing (up against the last drive cog). I bought a new bearing so I don't need to be careful with the one old one. I need to get it off but I'm stuck at this point. Anyone have any suggestions besides cutting it off with an air cutter?

There is a collar I believe right beside the drive cogs you need to make sure you are taking the one off the bearing. These set screws have been known to disapear on mine they were both gone so maybe the prior owner put a sae set screw in there. I would try some sae allen wrenches and see if they fit.

Dog. Yeah, the collar next to the cog that I mentioned fits the 3mm. The 2 in the the bearing look close to the same size but they're obviously not. I noticed the new bearing didn't come with new set screws. Maybe the previous owner went to the hardware store and bought sae screws like you said. I don't have t-handle wrenches, just the little L shaped ones in standard. Sounds like I need to run to the tool store.

Yea they dont come with the bearing why I dont know. Well the the money you save on labour will pay for the tools and the bearing.

I just did mine this spring and I cant remember if they are torx or not. I did just check the service manual and all it said was set screws and the torque is 6.5 foot lbs. I also checked the parts list and it does not say what it is either. Do you have any torx if so try them and see how they fit.

I just have some torx ends for a nut driver. I don't think that would work very good for this application as it's really tight in there. I should get a nice set of torx anyway.

I just talked to my dealer and he said they are allen wrench. You should be able to look under there with a flashlight and see what it is and what is needed to get it done.

Um, mine on my Viper and Attak are Torx. Worth a stab to try one.

Just got back from the garage. You are correct YammyRX1

One question sends several guys to the garage to crawl under their sleds....like we need an excuse! Gotta love this site.

Stuck my head underneath, shined a light up there, and even with my failing close up vision I could just make out the star pattern if I squinted. I still think it's kinda crazy that Yamaha mixes hex and torx set screws on the same shaft but the job is done. Thanks to all who replied. I'm glad I didn't ask the dealer. I get correct answers about 50% of the time. You guys are always right on.
