Cleaning out chain case residue

If you really want to flush, really don't feel you need to IMHO, I would use ATF. The cleaning dirt absorbing properties is top notch, that is why we used to do that to engines years ago when they would sludge, which rarely happens anymore. Back then if you had a noisy lifter from dirt or a sticking valve it worked great for that!
I have never flushed one out in the many years of sledding, if I seen any metal while draining I would open the case and find the source and fix it.

Good preventative maintenance. Never know when you find something could blow a weekend travel plan

Has anyone tried to drill and tap a hole for a drain plug in the Viper/Sidewinder chain cases?
That is a good thought, anybody on here a machinist that could add a drain plug to the kitty case?
You could do a send yours in and I will add one or maybe even an exchange program.
Money making opportunity and solve a design flaw at the same time!
Anyone? Bueller?

The case is pretty thin so tapping a hole may be a challenge. It is made of magnesium so welding it has its challenges.

At one time I thought about placing a riv-nut type fitting in the bottom but gave that idea up because there is no gurantee over time it may begin to leak.

At the end of the day the case molding was not shaped to flush oil out, so there will always be a small puddle in the bottom. Watching the grindings these cases produce - that area would lay chuck full of that material and not drain out. Conclusion - pull it apart and wipe it all clean.
