Hi, I was in some very deep sticky mud today and I had about 450lbs of person and gear on the grizzly with me. I have itp mud lights 26x12x12 rear and 26x10x12 front. I was in low range diff lock and was spinning hard and struggaling. I heard a loud clunk, kindof more of a click that sounded like something slipped in the gears. idk what it was I hear it twice while I was fighting to get through the mud. anyone heard this???

maybe a c.v.?raise the quad in the air and start spinning wheels to see/feel where it may be coming from.

I would guess a c.v. also especially with diff lock on. I have heard clicking and broke now 8 axles on my 2003 grizzly.

wow, 8 axles. It was under some extreme pressure when I heard the noise, the mud was deep and sticky with 2 people on the quad. it was so deep and sticky that the quad wouldnt even turn the tires in reverse. I had to winch it out.

If diff lock still turned both tires you didn't break anything yet! But like suggested I would jack it up and inspect your C.V.'s.
I have been replacing my axles with '05 axles and they are stronger. In '03 yamaha tried to cheap out and make the axles thinner so they are weaker, and then in '04 went back to the bigger size! I have friends with '02,'04,and '05 Grizzly's and I am the only one with that many problems.

ok, I will get it up tomorrow and try to find the source of my click sound. BTW, What exactly am I looking for and how do I find it , I could rebuild a banshee in a couple hours but this is my first time with a 4wd... Thanks!!

Check for play inside the cv boot between the tire hub and the axle. Hope this makes sense!! Make sure it does'nt look like any of the boots are starting to twist. :-o
