saw this on a few other forums, and thought I would go to the source!!!

My Nytro MTX primary clutch has a distinct rattle in it...have heard a .020 shim behind the spyder and the sheaves will eliminate/reduce this...

also heard there is a service or tech bulletin on this...

my concern is, I am CONFIDENT my dealer will nto get this right if I take it in to them...

does anyone have the bullet number? or better directions on this? yes, the dealer is that good ;)

yeah that has to be the most annoying part of the whole sled. I first thought that it was the bolts for the rollers being an 1/8th inch too long, but after checking my 98 SRX they are the same as this one and it doesn't rattle.

So if anybody has a solution to this I would extremely interested also!

There are literally 181 threads that have both 'clutch' and 'rattle'. Having the carbs synced helps carbed sleds some, not sure if this applies to the EFI's. The gear reduction of the 4 cylinder is also another source of noise(doesn't apply here does it). There is a theory about the power pulses causing the rattle at an idle. There was also an update for the Vector's I believe that involved some o-rings?!?!

Page two of this thread has some info about the vector clutch rattle kit. It's esentially the same motor, so it may help.

Don't know what #20 is but Yamaha lists it as 'Damper, slider' which kind of sounds like a shim......

I noticed a slight rattle aswell on primary, rod/bolts holding rollers are loose, tapped them (to test) and its not the bolts. Took primary to dealer and went through and inspected primary, little o-ring behind sliders were in good shape, they had No idea about a .020 shim. I will re-install and check.

yeah I tried the o-ring on the rollers trick and it made no difference...

do not trust dealer, but might have to take it in to them to do the shim...

you could send the clutches for balancing, over drive and the "rattle mod" to ulmer. should have a fairly fast turn around for you, and kill two or three birds with one stone.. ski

I have the shims, but not installed yet. Must bring it to the dealer to split the primary. I am confident shimming the spider will correct the rattle. I guess I've just learned to live with the rattle, but it is kind of embarassing.

the slide pieces(pucks) in bettween the spider and moveable sheave had been updated with an oring in a groove,,on the side that carries thrust, this had helped alot in the past , but did not entirely clear it up,,a buddy of mine gave me another set of these (pucks i call them) with the oring and groove to install on the other side as well,,he tells me it will make a huge difference.. just waiting for my own tooling to do this,,let yas know how it goes :moon:

Went to my dealer for the shim job!

No more rattle!
