The brake is not engaged. It is the primary that is getting hot.

Are there any black marks on the primary sheaves?

We should also ask what is hot? Does it sizzle if snow is thrown on it? Does the clutching feel good? What are your engagement rpms and full throttle rpm?

Need to keep in mind that primary soaks up engine heat as well, so that is contributing even when you just putting around a bit. Not much air to cool clutches when putting around the yard either. If you are burning the belt, you will have black marks on the sheaves. One other question, did you wash the belt in warm soapy water and let dry before installing, or did it go on straight outta the sleeve?

Very minimal black marks at the bottom of the shelves.

Haven't thrown snow on it but it is so hot it will burn your fingers if you touch the shelves. Haven't run wot yet. The engagement is around 2800

I put the belt on straight out of the sheave. Never heard of washing it first.

I guess I would need to see pics to give any more advice. What did it feel like riding it around? Did it seem to be under a big load? A lot of new belts do have a mold release on them. Should always clean and dry the belt from new. Its not as big a issue as it once was but advisable anyway. If it seemed fine other than smell and hot clutch wash the belt and clutch with dishsoap and water and take it for another ride staying in your previous tracks to let belt break in a little.
