Hi all i have a 2006 apex er and i have lost my rpms this year ... What i have done so far is this complrtely rebuilt secondary clutch with a new spring and two new bushings and cleaned it wrap at 70 degree . For the primary i put a bushing in the end cap and a new spring and de glazed the sheaves and cleaned ..Its a new belt and my alignement is within spec .. it revs 10,200 with 60 degree wrap and 10,200 with 70 degree wrap ( it pulls alot harder at 70 degree wrap ) The two things i have found is when i took my end cap off my primary the sheave i had to easily force to go down it just didnt go bang and drop is that normal . The other thing i found is that the end play clearance on the seconday is 3.55 mm and my service book says it should be alot less now i never changed that since its been new .P.s is the service manual right on the end play clearance or not its been wrong before .........thxs all and i need a little advise .........steve

I am going through the same thing, i lost a 1000rpm. I have changed both clutches, spark plugs, numerous clutch set ups. The only way that i can get it to rev 10500 is to put 56 grams weights in and wrap the secondary to 90 degrees. I definetly know its not cluching and the sled does not have a miss or run rough. All this happened when i changed the plugs, which i have changed back and double checked and cleaned everything. Is it possible to reflash the computer or check anything else. I have given up. Can these sleds retard the timing and have to be reset or did i ground something when i did the spark plug change. I have changed the plugs, three times since. same thing.

rpm problems

Went out for a rip today and my sled is still showing 10,000 rpms and the dream meter says 155 klms and heck my wife past me on her phazer now that sucks big time .............

I had the same prob years ago with a sled. Ended up being a broken motor mount. Clutches were always aliened when I checked them but when the power was applied the alienment would go way out.
Just a thought.

The motor mount is a good place to start. It could be so many different things and its probably going to be a strange problem causing the issue. If its not the motor mount are you sure its firing on all cylinders? Did you check the spark on all plugs? Is it running rough? Does it have good low end power and does the engine spool up like it use to? It could possibly be an EFI problem, maybe it’s an exhaust or intake obstruction of some kind, possibly a burnt exhaust valve. Post what you have noticed and what you have done besides the clutching. I'm just throwing out ideas for the things that I would check.

rpm problem

The only thing that i have done is exhaust donuts changed the spark plugs to 10,s changed the played with gearing but now back to stock changed the front drive bearing .. This machine only has 6000 klms and runs like a top idles perfect and pulls like a bear just no top end i have never blown a belt . nuttin just no go no more ......

Apexman, how tight is your track, if you put your sled on a stand and remove your drive belt can you spin your track easy, I know you also said you tried another clutch and that did not help, because I would have said maybe to much material came off your clutches when you had them deglazed or maybe its bringing your rpm down because of the rougher surface on the clutches? also maybe you can get your TPS setting checked.

rpm problems

Wow i cant belive that there is not a solution for this problem my machine has been in at the dealer more than i have ridden it it is starting to really piss me offf ........( might have to go back to my doo-doo )

Motor mounts are pooched

Mine have to be changed out this spring

Mine were so bad, that the engine twisted and bent the exhaust flex pipe sheilds. check to see if yours are like this too, this can be done by taking a flash light, and looking on top of the exhaust sheild (just like starring directly at your chaincase direction)

If its not the motor mounts, then im stumped for why my sled is exactly like you guys.

pull foam out of air box and wash with superclean or other degreaser. pull all 4 coils and remove rubber ends and rings and clean with brake clean. both of these issues can cause rpm loss.

I'm having the same problem and have not been able to figure it out either. It seems to me I lost 800 RPMs from last year to this year. I used to rev 11,000 RPMS all the time no matter what. Now I'm reving 10,200 or 10,300. I still have good power and ran 118 MPH on the gun on Sunday but the RPM loss is bugging me.
