My 2007 Apex GT has roughly 13,000 miles on it. As I was doing spring maintenance on the bearings, I noticed how dirty the clutches were. I haven’t had them apart since I haven’t had any issues., but I want to be prepared for next season. Has any one used the Clutch Tune -Up Kit part number 8ET-W176H-00-00 that Yamaha offers for $235?
Thanks

Looks like replacement rollers and two bushings make up the bulk of the kit as the rest appears to be the three bolts, nuts, washers, and cylinder sleeves used to secure the clutch arms/weights to the spider clutch. Although I saw the kit on Partzilla for around $175, you might want to just price out the rollers and bushings if your hardware is still in decent shape. I have not used this kit but am interested to see if others have.

have to check the one on the 11 as i had to replace the clutch from it cracking at around the 16000 mi point but it was all still in spec when i put it together last summer and it is at around 18000 mi atm. i usually just blow mine out with compressed air every year or 2000 mi to cut down on the belt dust causing wear in the clutches.

be careful when it comes to clutch's i would recommend only using OME stuff. i have seen bad stuff happen with after market stuff.

Take it apart & see what you have.
Most of those parts won't be needed unless it's just for your piece of mind.
It would be cheaper to send it out to someone like Ulmer & have him go through it since you'll need a Spider Wrench anyways.
He changed my Pucks at 10,000 & 20,000 miles.
Everything else is still original except for the cover i replaced last year since i had a new one sitting around.

Ulmer took mine apart, inspected it, changed Pucks, tested the spring then balanced it for less then that kit.

Agree.
The Apex has incredible clutch life given that it isn't mounted on the crankshaft.
Only a few select components needed.

I agree as I have over 15,000 miles on my 08 Apex and like maim, I've always blow out clutches and clean as well as use a scotch brite pad on the faces of the sheaves and never had to replace any of the primary clutch components. I also run Ulmer Racing's clutch kit and the only thing I had to replace between the primary and secondary during all of those miles were the secondary clutch ramp shoes. And like darv suggested, OEM ones were much better than aftermarket even though OEM's are a lot more.

I agree the Apex clutches were amazing.
I had a buddy that ran a small engine repair shop and did snowmobile repair as well. I asked him to inspect and refurbish my Apex clutch with about 12k miles on it. All i did was blow it out and keep good belt tension.
He was ‘pissed’ because it was so good and his CAT F7 CLUTCH- less than 1/2 the miles, needed a lot of work and parts and was basically needed a complete rebuild... He complimented Yamaha and said, ‘ now I know what they mean by Yamaha quality.’

Actually, I bet that Cat clutch would last a lot longer mounted on that Apex engine compared to mounted directly on the crank of that Cat twin.

Thunder Products Clutching recommends you inspect your clutches for heat cracks first, then check to see if there are grooves worn in the clutch sheaves. If they are not grooved or worn, they can be saved and re-used. Yamaha has replacements...but are on back-order.

Typical Yamaha primary rebuild is about 8,000 miles, but every sled and rider are different.

If you need help rebuilding your clutch, let us know... We can turn your clutch from dirty and working poorly to like new condition in a couple days (depending on if you need to replace sheaves or not)

Do you offer clutch belt surface
machining?

There you go Scooter my boy!
Right from the Horses' Mouth.
Send it to the professionals & it will probably cost less and will be done right.

P.S: I am in NO way calling Terry or anyone from TP a "Horse"
