Clutching for a good standing start apex mountain turbo

fact is I have lag, no exhaust leak, 2.5 degree advanced timing BUT with the timing box retarding from 12 psi at 1 deg per # of boost, so 15# is about stock timing and from there is 1 deg lower per # of boost.

Air fuel gets crazy when I snap throttle, if goes extreme lean for a split second, and then goes extreme rich until boost kick in.

I run pure logic box from alpine.

The extreme rich like in the 10s or even worse the 9s will kill your bottom end power BIG TIME. Get your AFRs right and it will wake up down low. I know cause I'm working on the same issues in my carbed sled, when it goes into the low 10s the sled just quit pulling and it feels doggy with lousy throttle response and huge lag. I'm working on a spring and needle combo to remove fuel/add air down low. This is racing from a stand still.

Ok... I found that I have a small exhaust leak at the flex joint on my BD header.

That is no big leak.

Can this cause me headaches?

I have two rides left till end of season.

I will repair this in summer.

From what you have described, IMO it's your clutching. You're over shifting on the bottom.

Edit: OBTW, never say when your last ride is. That's the biggest jinx a guy can give himself. you're almost guranteed to have something go wrong. :o|

I removed a 0.030" shim from the spider, re-adjusted belt gap and went from a 3900rpm start point to a 5600 start point.

Should be a whole lot better!

will let you all know! :jump:
