how many washers does that black weight =?That is the Tungsten Carbide weight I would think. I got rid of that one. My weights are the 50Y weights.
thats how allen sent it. that and 3 washers on the heel and 2 on the tip. now i'm down to zero on tip and 1 wasaher plus the black weight on the heel..

More = less but all that weight in heel is the problem. I will get scale out.

i appreciate you spelling it out for me..
one thing though..
I had allens clutch kit on last year,, never really got past 8600 rpm.
then this year i did fulll exhaust allens air intake and powercomander.
right off the line it was hitting the rev lmt then rpms dropping from there.
added 2 washers the the heel and no more bouncing off rev lmt .. but still no good on wot rpms..
now if i take out the tungsten washer and replace with 4 washers. i would be going from 9 grams total in heel to 4 grams..
wouldnt it bounce off the rev lmt?
but then i would add washers to tip to control max rpm.
i'm starting to see the light..
i think anyway..
whats a good start for amount of washers on tip?

I believe at your altitude and track you are about same power as me to ground. Hope it works.

What you guys just found out is how much that 8Jp was slipping. Now you are not slipping and can get consistent clutch tune. If you must run 8JP size belt then use the Gates. It will not slip.

In my case I ran with the 8dn almost all last year and had the clutching just about right except for on the take off where I was banging the limiter. I turfed the 8jp as soon as I heard about the 8dn as I was having inconsistent rpm, a constant burning smell and copious amounts of belt dust.

Guys, I have yet to ride my '15 RTX DX and I am planning on running it stock for a while to get a baseline established on the performance before starting mods.
My dealer and the Yamaha rep that was at the dealership the day that I was asking about the belt both told me that all of the talk on TY about getting better performance with the 8DN belt is complete nonsense. They argued that if the 8DN belt could be used that Yamaha wouldn't have gone to the trouble and great expense of creating a new belt when it would have been so much easier to use an existing belt.
Don't kill the messenger here. I am just reporting what I was told. I have rarely been steered wrong over the years by my fellow TY members so I am keeping an open mind and I am reserving judgement on the belt issue until I have some miles on my sled. I have a few questions for you guys. Specifically:
1) Is the 8DN only beneficial on Vipers that have clutch kits?
2) Do the clutches need to be machined in order to receive the benefit of the 8DN belt?
3) What (if any) benefit is there to running the 8DN belt on a stock Viper?
4) What is the optimum RPM for the stock motor to run at for maximum HP?
5) What exactly is the difference (dimensions & hardness) between the 8DN & 8JP belts?

What I don't get is how some have no luck with 8JP and some, like me, have 3200 trouble free miles on one. I thought the 8JP was softer, so how does the 8DN cure a slipping problem? The 8DN is a proven, yet hard, belt. I am not saying it does not work for some but maybe there is more to the problem. Whatever works for you, go with it.

The big problem occurs when held wide open for a long run. Everything is settled down or should be. Very few people even do this. Imagine holding it wide open for a good minute or 4 and having time and being relaxed enough to be looking at your tach so you can see whats going on. All at near 100mph. Most will be in a death grip at this point not looking at tach. For the Powder guys speed isnt there but load is. Its not totally the 8JP its also spring bind. Its both. These guys arent going to have spring bind because of there mods. Looks like they are using the 8dn already. There clutching is just off.

Run the heck out of the 8jp. I just do not like dealing with the mess it makes,smaller dia makes belt change a pain and I like the initial smoother launch 8dn provides with being higher in secondary. All those can be overcome but why bother when there is lots of 8dn's and equivalent aftermarket.

The Gates 8jp does not slip and is consistent. Put one on and tell me what your rpm's are. I believe 8jp is softer also but that does not mean it wont slip. Maybe your type of riding you are varying throttle alot and therefore you dont notice it. But show me a pic of your clutches. If they look like a burnout was done on them you are slipping. Take a pic.
