I run the Yamaha X-tall w/brackets and love it. I even rolled the sled and it didn't break. However the light pod side plastic did :o|

The same happened to the wife on the Apex except she has the stock shield. I thought "WOW" no damage. Got the sled home and upon closer inspection showed the light pod plastic broke on both sides where it bolts into the metal bracket. Bummer.

I was also thinking of the larger Cobra shield for her but now with the pod damage I'm thinking the taller shield from Cobra might put to much stress on the light pod without some extra support. I'll probably wait till next year and add the X-tall w/brackets for extra support. I heard here that they are on backorder. I do like the looks of the Cobra shield though.

Looks don't keep your upper body and fingers from freezing. If it's good enough for the Apex's in the Soo I-500, it's good enough for me. :flag:

Thanks

BIGMAC and Bbjorklund, I love the look of my black chrome Yamaha low windshield but I am sick of freezing

So hands chest and shoulders are much warmer?

I have an elec shield so I do not care if head is in the wind

THanks

Hands and chest are much warmer...head is not in the wind.

I just ordered the Cobra medium windshield. It is only a couple of inches shorter than the tall Cobra and I bet it is much better than the medium Yamaha.

Thanks guys.
I hope to see it warm riding from here on out this year (yeah right it was below zero this am) but I do intend to replace the windshield.

Update....I just got back from riding in Quebec tonight. Temps about -5 to -10 F after dark. The tall Cobra Windshield was a life saver. I would have had a miserable trip with out it. If you are looking for a tall windshield that doesn't need support brackets this is it. 125% better than the Yamaha medium windshield and does not fold down at all at 100+ MPH. Had warmers still suck. Had to use gauntlets. I will create another post about what people are using for gauntlets. Mine did not work very well with the hook handlebars.....Had a great trip 523 miles in 2 days riding.

glad to hear the cobra windshield worked

Just ordered the tall windshield from my dealer. I'll be in Quebec next week and I don't want to be cold like last year. Shark, where in Quebec did you ride and how were the conditions?

I have the mid on my RTX and I do not get cold or think I have a wind prob. My height is 5-10 I do not know if you are taller and then maybe it is a problem.

It's the shape of the mid Yamaha windshield that is the problem. It appears that you get way more protection from the tall shield made by cobra. Is your made by Yamaha or Cobra?

YAMAHA,but compared to the factory that came on the sled its a big improvement . I have not tried the COBRA mid .

I see. I must just be a woose! I have the mid Yamaha shield and think it is terrible. I guess I will just have to see how this new one works out.

We stayed it St. Donat at Motel LaFloren and rode St. Donat, St. Michelle, St.Zenon, St. Come. Mt Tremblant, St. Agathe and Lac De Saint. Conditions were 10/10. I would rate them a 15 but snow dust was terrible. Not that it is the trails fault the snow dust was bad..I agree that the Yamaha mid windshield is terrible.
