cobra track question

i plan to switch to the 1.375 cobra on my 07 attak with rear cooler.
current set-up is stock ripsaw with 1.375 studs, 10,000 kms.
is there any issue re-useing my woody 1.375 picks, i hear other guys have done it on this track and it works fine. some of the track profile is actually 1.25" hieght anyways, so i'm told.
finally can anybody recommend best set-up for hard pack groomed riding, closed window, fully clipped, open etc etc ?

Personally, I think running a Cobra for groomed trail is a big mistake. I had one on my Turbo Cat and know its not a good trail track unless the snow is very loose. I was going to switch over to an Iceripper XT before I sold the sled. I had 153 studs in the Cobra and it would not hook as well as the Iceripper XT in the corners on the trail. I have the Iceripper XT on my Attak and like not worrying about studs ripping out; also having a 5 MPH higher top speed without studs is a big plus. The Cobra will also loose you some speed over the Ripsaw due to windage. Testing on the Cat showed 10 MPH difference, 1" hacksaw vs. 1.375" Cobra. Cat is no longer using the Cobra. The new 2010 Cat Turbo will get a std. Ripsaw in lieu of the Cobra on the LE's and Sno-Pro's due to their poor speed and performance last season over the std. sled that had a Hacksaw.

Do yourself a favor and check out the Iceripper XT sharp stud track. You'll be MUCH happier on a groomed trail.

Like Mike said, the cobra is best suited in looser snow.

With my ripsaw, it had better bite on the trails when it comes to kicking it out or lack there of, and the cobra there is maybe a little bit more ability to kick it out in corners. But its a trivial based on how many studs I run! I have to emphasize that the difference I felt on trails was minimal, but for my conditions, my traction was improved in every circumstance.

Secondly, the cobra is amazing off trail, the ripsaw is useless in comparison, now this was a HUGE difference and was instantly noticeable. Plus my cobra is the toughest track Iv seen so far, I shuda had pull throughs and ripped lugs, but no damage!!!

Check out my setup, my studs, im fully clipped and all windows open. Your going to most likely need extroverts, my attak used to ratchet like none other, even with the track tension exceedingly high, as in so tight that you cudnt turn the track by hand! Get the longer 1.450" studs, absolutely worth it, and no scratch marks and I would absolutely buy the cobra, hands down, even just for the durability!!

is the cobra track your looking at a single ply track? if it is you will need studs with the right shoulder height to tighten properly. i put a 128" cobra on my friends sled hooks great rides great but needed studs for the single ply tracks.

Yes you can move your studs over assuming the Cobra you purchase is not a single ply. Do a search on here and you'll find that the majority have found the Cobra to outperform the Ripsaw is all conditions with the possible exception being very hard pack. Many have found the top speed to be the same as the ripsaw as well just as Camoplast had stated.

My experience with the Cobra is that it is an excellent trail track and for the northern Wisconsin trails it is hard to beat. A hacksaw would be good for lake racing, or if you could count on always following a groomer... but if that is not your application, it is poor everywhere else.

I can't comment on the ice ripper as I have not ran that one. Seems like a decent track if you don't want to stud. You just can't expect the same hook up as studding out of it.

did not realize the cobra also comes in single ply.
i will make sure i don't get single ply.
plan to run 162, 1.375" woodys. off my old ripsaw.
from what most are saying i will not notice much difference on groomed trails in comparison to my current 1.25" ripsaw ?.
i plan to switch to cobra mainly beacause of the write ups on how much it improves this machine in loose snow. tired of being scared to go in the deeper stuff & get stuck !

I doubt you'll be disappointed. My Cobra gives me so much more confidence off trail I know when I do finally stick it, it's going to be BIG TIME!

I dont know about the rest of you guys.. but you never know what kind of snow conditions you are going to run into..

I loved my old ripsaw, but it lacked loose snow traction..

I switched to the the cobra and it works just as good in everything as the ripsaw did, only better in off trail conditions, it digs better, hooks harder and i noticed no loss of top speed. I was still able to pull away from my buddys Crossfire 1000 out on a river..

Durability wise, i dont see the cobra lasting as long as a ripsaw, mine is already starting to fray on the ends.

Im running woody SS 1.450 studs in mine.. Love it.., Not hitting problems either
