Put 600 miles on last weekend, 1/20/06 up in Cochrane, Ontario. Trails were great and traffic was very light, probably past 15 to 20 sleds in 3 days. The 200 miles on "A" trail from Cochrane to Hearst is the fastest trail I've ever ridden, very wide and lots of very long straightaways. This is our 5th year up there, great riding.

Headed to the same area in 3 weeks. Can't wait to put some serious miles on. It is 46 degrees in Minnesota today.

Yeah its awesome..Did 1400 kms in 4 days..Stayed at the chimo and sledded to: Albitibi Canyon, 1/2 way 2 quebec (had to turn around), Kapuskasing, and many speed runs to smothy's in Smooth rock..Very fun, Very fast, and very few sleds...Could run side by side at night...weeee

Costs a pretty penny to fill up at the basecamp near Abitibi...$1.89 a liter.
Some in our group paid $85 to fill their tank.

Well you would have to have a death wish if you would not make sure there was gas...So yeah..make sure...As far as 85 bucks...that sounds like arctic crap 2 me...They do only take cash...so b prepared..You will not be left stranded...It is an extreme ride 4 sure...I liked it..But I'm an extreme rider...So complete disclaimer to my posts....I'm very good....If your not...stay away from my posts...lol

Apex Gt, we are planning to run up to the Canyon one day on our trip in 3 weeks. Is this a fun trip?? Did you take the trail up and back or did you do a off trail trip with the outfitter that runs the gas there??

Yeah I had a great time..It's really far though and when you think your almost there you'll be about half way...It wasn't groomed for us which slowed my buddy down on his srx but for me it was great..Really got to know my apex and the suspension..Could really launch off of moguls. Plus theres lots of powder you can find..Never forget carving 3 feet of it at 100 km/hr....If your into hill climbing i would deffinately go with the cochrane extreme tour guide...Not sure how much his services cost but he seemed really cool and allowed us to pay him later for gas..Cause all they take is cash..The trail there and back is awesome though...But the trail to hearst is even better..So it all depends on how much time you have...Here are some pics of the canyon and trail..

One other thing..When the sunset for us the bottom fell out of the temperature...Must have dropped 15 degrees....So it became very very unpleasant towards the end...-25 c roughly....So be prepared..Its pretty isolated...

$85 was for SX Venom, my Warrior took $55. Basecamp is about 90-95 miles from Cochrane.

We went all the way to Moosonee last year.

I've heard about the moosonee trip..How was it..Don't you need a guide? I heard half of it was blazing your own trail with the guide providing gas at drop off points...Was it amazing?? I'm hoping to do a long trip..Was thinking about leaving from North Bay to Cochrane..over to quebec..into Vermont...and perhaps Maine...Maybe in Feb...Also been looking into Sledding from here (NB) to mattawa then into quebec and up but not sure what the trails are like in quebec...and if its even possible..Tried using the trail maps at the qfsc site but wasn't working properly..As I type this a blizzard is happing here :)

We had a guide to Moosonee. He has a cabin halfway between the basecamp in Fraiserdale and Moosonee. He meets you at basecamp you ride to his cabin (middle of nowhere), feeds you dinner and stay the night. Next morning he takes you to Moosonee, eat lunch in town, look at sites, ride out on the frozen part of James Bay, head back to the cabin for dinner and overnight. Next morning back to basecamp.
