if its not CAM SENSOR maybe MAIN SWITCH ASSEMBLY where the key goes in.

They did take the starter out to look at & everthing was turning good there, according to the mechanic. Starting to worry it could be a major problem. Really worried now, as usually this site has some good advice & it seems to have stumped the TY-4stroke crowd!

But what about the MAIN SWICH ASSEMBLY may have an issue with the CONNECTOR/PLUG or INTERNAL PART when key is turned?moisture may have made its way down and shorting out.i have seen simple things cause big headaches, may not be it- but worth a try.he said the starter was good.blackattak said:They did take the starter out to look at & everthing was turning good there, according to the mechanic. Just wondering why it starts at the beginning of the trip but once run for a while & I stop it, on restart the issue arises.
Was over to the dealer this morning & even sitting in there heated shop it didn't start.
I'll recommend they look at the MAIN SWITCH ASSEMBLY, but what else would you look for? They are dissapointed at the dealer as well (apparently the loaner I have is the dealer owner's) & seemed a little stumped. Mechanic will be looking at it Monday.

I think a decent mechanic, that is the problem, I don't think there is a GREAT mechanic in the area. I hate to be the guy training Yamaha mechanics. I believe that training should be up to Yamaha to ensure their techs are properly trained, not up to the Yamaha customer.
Like I said the strange part was how it started a few times, no problem after the fix, but only quit after a short run. No Code 11 flashing during the ride, it only showed up both times when I tried to restart the sled. This is what has me perplexed?

Did you SEE the old CAM SENSOR? SURPRISED they had the part in stock.not a famous piece that fails on these apexxs.check the wires from there if (code 11) keeps flashing & running issues.if no go tell the mechanic to start swapping, thats what i would do exp if i had a 09 next to me. does it quit while your riding or always no-start when you re-fire? battery strong? its got me bamboozled?

Has always run fine, no code or warning light flashing while running. Has failed the last 2 times out ONLY after having it out on the trail for a bit. Shut it off & when I have went to restart it, the thing doesn't turn over (or anything else), just the gauges light up, the warning light then flashes & shows the code 11.
Both times I have started it up no problem (after sitting in my unheated garage), load it on the trailer, shut it down for transportation. Start it up to unload it (no problem), then take it for a run on the trail (17 miles first incident, 8 miles for the 2nd incident). Stopped the sled myself (no warning light or code showing) both times & then the issue arises- DEAD SLED.
I did not see the old sensor, they had to order 1 in. They took it off Monday & replaced it with new one on Thursday.
Got me bamboozled as well, just don't want to keep throwing $$$ away. Like I said I enjoy the sled, I just want it to get fixed (& not cost me a fortune while they try to figure it out). They say the battery is strong.
IDEAS???

You should read my post , Apex won't sart , no crank and no fuel pump, mine and yours sound like the same thing, I seen code 11, code 43 and 81, and it was all due to the bad ground inside the wiring harness. I have pics over on HCS under the Yamaha forum and crewchief47 is going to post some on here for me. I put the topic up today, this was one of the hardest electrical snage I 've ever had and I've had some great ones. Got mine fixed today and it's running perfect, good luck.

Did yours start up for the day & quit after you had been riding if for a while?
Printed your topics & pics from "Crewchief67". Thanks for those as I will take it to the dealer.
Looking for an electronic gremlin at $70 or $80 an hour could rapidly create a huge repair bill. Hopefully this is the answer!

Yes mine worked perfect all day, stopped for a minute and that was it. Electrical trouble is some of the hardest to find and most expensive repairs labour wise. I think I spent about 15 hours on mine start to finish, the repair ended up being free as there were no parts bad, but at 70/80 an hour , it would have shut down my season. Good luck with it.

Check the kill switch. If it got turned off, then it won't run

Not the kill switch. Knew to look for that. Wish it was that simple.

Now looks to be my starter. They have reset the error codes, looked at all wiring & things were good. They then looked at the starter closer & some gunk there so they cleaned it up. If they cycle thru starts, it behaves normally a number of times, but then eventually will not start & throws the code.
6 weeks post warranty & now a $500 part & labor. Good news is the dealer is refunding the $125 for the sensor they replaced since that was not the issue. Hopefully this turns out to be the answer. May be a while before I find out as we have had a big thaw rain event & it looks as if we will need another good storm before I can find out for sure.
So much for Yamaha's ads talking about more reliability & lower maintenance costs. More reliable than what? As you can see I am a little dissapointed in the product, a high end machine that doesn't seem capable of lasting for longer than 3 seasons ( 5700 miles).
Will give feedback if this does or does not turn out to be the answer.
