Today my sled flashed code 81 and the engine symbol at me. I coasted down to an area and stopped. I then went to move and my sled died. After looking over all the connections the battery cables were loose at the terminals. I tightened them, the sled fired right up and I never saw code 81 again. When I searched it sounded like 81 has to do with the handwarmers or wiring harness. Would 81 have flashed because of a bad connection at the battery?
I just want to make sure I don't have a motor issue.
Thanks

caleb, it is a grip warmer short or fault. not motor related. ski

That's a relief. Must have just been the loose battery cables then. Good to know.
Chances are that it will come again....
Intermittant short/open circuit trigger code 81, which stays until you turn off & restart the engine. Once alarm is triggered, ecu stop feeding power to the grip.
Fixed mine by thightening the bypass connector between the 2 grips. (both are connected in serie) The female side was in trouble.... I figure your problem can be similar to my Venture.

I know this is a super old thread but I also had this problem after hitting a ditch pretty hard. Sled had code 81 and ran terrible.
Is it a voltage related issue or what? Did it ever come back on?
It seems to be ok now but havent had a chance to ride it again yet. With the lack of snow around home i cant test and i am headed to the hills tomorrow and hope its not going to be an issue.
thanks
