Evening folks,
The orange warning light started flashing and code 85 came up on my wife's Phazer came on this evening as I was putting our sleds inside after a day of riding. Wifey said she didn't notice it today while we were out. I looked it up and this relates to the a failure with the oil pressure switch or ECU (not sure what that is)...we were looking at doing another ride tomorrow; just wondering if this is something that would make the sled unusable.
I haven't had the panels off this thing yet but I suspect that, due to a recent servicing, the switch/wiring located directly above the filter was disturbed. I hear it's a PITA to get at. Not sure if anyone has done this before and if they have a picture trail they might post.
Is this something that should prevent her from riding it tomorrow? Would love a second/third/fourth opinion.![Smile :) :)](data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7)

Will the sled work? Yes, would I ride it? No.
85 is a miscommunication between the oil pressure switch and the ECU (Computer), it will not know if there is an oil pressure loss to be able to protect the engine.
Like in the thread bellow, "2012 Phazer Help" I bet you have the same problem, unplugged/disconnected switch.

It is something you would be able to fix before tomorrow's ride, if it is just not plugged in. I will try to find you a step by step for oil change, it will be the same steps to get to the switch.

Yes, a few times... I get to get a little too ahead of myself and close the sled up before plugging it back in lol
If it is your first time removing the airbox, get started early enough.
To avoid breaking the headlight cover (Ive done that too lol) pull up from the back side of the cover. Do it very slowly if the plastic is cold. You will probably have to take the grommets off the cover and put it back on the sled before installation.

I'd second Yamahas input here!!!
We've become so trustworthy of our yamaha 4strokes that even an oil code doesn't even make us flinch that there may genually a problem. Amazing machines!!

That headlight cover doesn't want to come off, it seems.

It's not easy, takes more force then you would think. I am always worried about breaking it. On the back side (closer to the steering column) there are 2 "posts" that are held in holes by grommets in the white tank cover plastic. Pull the headlight cover straight up.

You will probably have to remove your windshield.

Try warming it up with a hair dryer. Once warm put straight up with a slow steady pull as previously advised.

And watch out for the grommets taking a hike. A little vaseline or light grease help for installation. Be careful also not to break the sensors on the airbox.

Got it fixed without any 'carnage', by the way...it was the loose connector as mentioned. I have a few pics taken...I'll go through them after and see if there's anything that I can add to this for the next person. Thanks again!!! ![Smile :) :)](data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7)

Good to hear. Did you end up breaking the headlight cover? I broke mind right after I bought my phazer and the replacement cover now has grease and I also shaved down the "bulge" so I could get it off easier.

Nope, managed to get everything off without breaking anything (well, except one ear off the headlight but that's fine now with a nice dab of crazy glue and JB Weld). Here's a few pics to help the next person in line...
Remove front plastics and windshield (to provide room to work)...

Remove headlight cover...this will make you work...but it will come out!
![IMG_20150118_091634.jpg IMG_20150118_091634.jpg](https://ty4stroke.com/data/attachments/62/62289-fa1fa2f262c82f1c8e34844b68b17807.jpg)
Remove the headlight, unplug the sensors and hoses as indicated (you'll have to remove the 3 bolts highlighted in yellow and remove the unit to get at 2 of the hoses). Once everything's disconnected just remove the airbox cover by backing off the bolts marked by the red circles. Once this is off you'll see the homeless connector.
