Cold air intake ??

What s everyone think about them,is it neccessary with a time, is it noticable, is it louder.i have a hurricane bundle tune. Just wondering if its worth it
I have it on my Viper. Mine is ridiculously tall but I don't mind, never been a problem. It's not necessary, but you could argue it theoretically adds a few HP and reliability to both engine and turbo. You probably won't feel the added HP, but you'll love that loud spooling-up sound. In my opinion: it's cheap, looks better, sounds better, is better for the engine to some degree, so why not go for it? Just take care to check the filter for holes and eventual 2-strokes.

I also have MoFlows and on top of that I added my own vent and frogskin in the front panel behind intercooler. My filter is also right at the vent screen, and if you look at it, it has belt dust being inhaled into it, think about it, if it was always sucking clean fresh cold air the filter wouldn't be black from belt dust. It could only be black if it was indeed sucking warm underhood air and belt dust.

Don't take my word for it, it's easy to test the air temp incoming to the filter, just throw a temp gauge up there and have a look what is actually entering the filter for air temps. Another thing to think about, the engine is inhaling and consuming more air thru its intake coming into the turbo and thru the engine than what is getting pushed thru that one lowly factory vent trying to feed it from vehicle movement, hence the reason that just putting an extension on the filter and extending it to the outside the hood it goes way lean and needs a boatload more fuel.

The stock airbox runs cooler intake temps all the time and even more so when it's warmer out. We see it on every machine that runs a "WAI". Stick it outside the hood and you can call it a "CAI". Then, and only then will it not suck warm underhood air and belt dust.
I think something more like pic is a true CAI. There is a pre-filter cover for it to keep snow-dust out of it.

For sure that's an external cai, problem is imo it's fugly. As Knapp stated earlier, that will certainly lean things out.
I guess I don't understand then why the tuners developed tunes for wai's if they don't work?

Well think about it. They add a bit of boost, like .5 lbs, so maybe less restricting and adds just a bit of power because of that reason of added boost alone, and no reason to add fuel because not really adding power, just a 1/2 lb more boost so it self adjusts for the added boost pressure.

Stick them outside the hood and ram air into them and it needs a whole point of fuel added, so tells me the ramming effect being outside the hood is the one that is really working as a CAI and intake temps will be down too. They go lean doing this!!

I went from say 12:1AF ratio under the hood WAI, to sticking it outside the front air vent and 13:1 AF ratio. Stock airbox still runs 12:1 AF ratio so same as under the hood "WAI". Difference is the stock airbox ran cooler temps than the under hood "WAI". Sticking it outside the hood and ramming air into it was too lean for actual trail use, plus its ugly as crap sticking it outside the hood.
