Hey guys. I just bought a new 08 fx nytro. I only have 30 miles on it. When the sled is cold the first crank the engine starts and then dies. On the 2nd try it starts and runs fine. Do all nytros do this or should the sled be running on the first start? This happens whether I leave the sled outside or it is in the garage so I don't think it has anything to do with outside temp. Also if the engine is warm it runs just fine on the first try.

I would not say that the machine is cold starting. Mine does this once in a while. It turns over fine though. If it was cold starting then it would crank lots and slow before starting if starting at all.
Do not worry about it as it is nothing to worry about. Just a quark is all and it will not prevent it from starting.

You can try turning the key on for a few seconds before cranking to let the fuel pump charge the system.

Sikeward, my sled also does this. More so this year than last. I have tried cycling the key a couple times to let the fuel pump charge up. I'm thinking it has something to do with the fuel not staying pressurized in the system. Once the sled is warmed up it starts first turn.

Mine does it as well.
I read on here the idea of cycling the fuel pump a few times before cranking it over when the temps are extreme.
Tried that last month when the sled sat out overnight when it was -30C and it does the same thing it always does......crank, stall, crank again, stall, crank again & then it finally runs.
So that theory is bunk.

cylcing does work if you do it properly.
the colder it is the more cycles it may need.
at -30f i cycle the key (listening for the fuel pump to come on AND shut off) then turn the key off for about 5 seconds, then repeat. i do this 4-5 times at that temp. usually the sled will start the first time i hit the starter. it will crank slowly then come to life. sometimes it may start and then die. but for the most part i hit the key and the second time it will stay running. i do not have the thing start and die a bunch of times before it will run. ski

Mine will start and stall. Then start and backfire. Then start and run like it fouled a plug give a juice of the throttle and it smooths out. Has done this 3 times when it was below 0F.

I did it properly - it doesn't start the first time. This was cycling it 3 times.
I'll try again and report back next time the sled is out overnight, but I'll try 4-5 times like you suggest.
We'll see.

After i added fuel controller to richen up the bottom end I get way better cold starting/smooth running performance.

I moved my CO levels up to 10 on each cylinder and it always starts and runs on the first try
Mine always starts & runs on the first try. I can't remember it ever dying.

Same results here, Starts up and idles at 2200rpm and then gradually drops to 1500ish after about two minutes. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong but when you turn on the key and listen to the fuel pump cycle I wonder if it kicks out on a pressure switch(meaning it's up to adequate pressure) or is it a predetermined time it runs. Mine does the same thing; just started it in -30F weather and it took a couple of trys; but turned over fine, just takes time to get the fuel pumping. The '07 Phazer on the other hand, didn't start, it is now in the shop for the cold weather update kit. Jumping it in 30 below weather (which requires taking the side panel off) is not enjoyable. I was more than happy with the way the Nytro started - especially after watching the 2-strokes swapping out plugs and pulling their arms off....

Soory, I do not know exactly what it is. It is a service bulletin your dealer should know about. You can jump over to the Phazer forum for more details, I am sure there are plenty of threads on the subject.
