Can the cold light come on if the thermostat is stuck open? I am talking the cold temp light (the one that blinks when you first start the RX-1) not the over heat light.

i would think it could, but not positive. ive read that the light blinks based on coolant temp, and if the t-stat was stuck open, then it could take a while for the coolant to warm up enough to shut the light off.

Dave,

No. Your wire harness in the nose has been cut by the metal support of the nose cone. I had that problem and fixed it. You will have to take out the tool kit and storage box to get to it. I opened up the wire harness.(its just taped together) Looked in the book at the wire schematics and found the color of the wire for that light. I had to look very closely with good light to find the cut. It was very small like a razor cut. I would bet money that is your problem as well.

I taped up the wire, wrapped lots of extra good quality tape around the wire bundle. Then I put more tape around the whole thing all the way up the hood. I cut a peice of 3/8 rubber hose and put it around the cut out in the metal nose cone support so it cuts no more.

Been fine ever since.

Good luck
Tony

if its a wiring problem related to those wires, than tonyvt nailed the fix. we did this in 03 when it was first found, using a piece of heater hose abt. 6in. long cut lengthwise, zip tied in place.9000mi. and no problems with the fix.

Well, Hackers Yamaha has the sled right now (still a new 05) and they said they were probably going to change the whole harness.

When the light comes on (it comes on solid, not blinking) and it can be while riding (after 25 miles) of after sitting just a very small amount of time (5 minutes). Best part is, it cuts the RPMs to 6000 when doing so.

Dave

I am quite sure you have cut wires grounding out. Most likely in the nose cone. But I have heard of wire rubbing throug under the engine as well.

Good luck. Keep us updated. WE can never have too much info on the ole RX.....
