Hey Guys, I've been a lurker and have always kept some sort of yamaha around. VMax SX and SRX's back in the day. Lately I've been a DOO guy, but I've had some reliablility issues with my XP so I'm rejoining the Blue Army and wanted some suggestions from the TY pros. I'm going Nytro but wanted some advice on configuration. I live in MN and ride trails, ditches, and some back country. Will a 144 be too much for the type of riding I do? What else do I need to know or be warned about? Thanks in advance.

Welcome.... some poeple rebuilt the whole sled and some just ride them ...a few minor ajustments and these sled rock some will jump on and say you need this and that but i don't think you do my sled is stock besides clutching and regeared it i like my sled got about 5600 miles on it with no problems

I don't think a 144 would be too much at all. I find the longer track makes it much more stable, and on hard pack it whips through the turns, steering with the throttle and especially the brake. I spend alot more time off trail tan on, but I love the long track in all conditions.

Really loving the 136"

Wow, thanks for the quick responses guys. What a great forum. I was hoping to hear a 144 would be fine. My dealer has a 2011 XTX for 8999.99 I'm thinking about or should I spend a little more for the 2012?

They really haven't been changed all that much over the years, so I would go with a year old and save some $$$$$$$. And mod it up some with the left over  Good luck and Welcome

The 144'' is fine around here. The first thing I would do to it is mess around with the suspension settings. If you do a search you should find something suitable for us ditch bangers in the Midwest. I put on new skis this year and after a year of adjustments and skis I have no handling issues like some would lead you to believe. Great sled, and I agree with going 2011 and using some saved cash to buy aftermarket mods. Ulmer Racing is a one stop shop for the Nytro , IMO.

I think the 144 is a great all around track! I was thinking my next sled would be a 121 with a deep lug but I cannot bring myself to go back. The ripsaw will do ok but if you are really serious about playing off trail a track upgrade would be a wise decision along with skis! These 2 things will totally transform this sled! You are gonna love the motor!

I love the 136", Will run 95 MPH in 660', ditch bang and off trail with any 144" I really hope Yamaha changes things up on the next model Nytro..

Of all the mods I've done, I would say skis and atleast get the tripple rate front and dual rate rear springs are almost a requirement IF you like to ride at a spirited pace. Those two alone made a huge difference.

Others to strongly consider are the yama-heater and more fuel.

All the rest are just people being picky (me included)

My Nytro XTX has been doing everything I ask it to do. It does a great job ditch banging. The engine is awesome. I have no desire to change sleds any time soon. Spend time setting the suspension and put different skis or carbides on, you'll be good to go (if it doesn't already have it done). The stock skis suck in the deep powder. Front a-arm bushing and ball-joints are its week points. Both are easy to fix. My hand warmers have struggled at -10F. I thought the small tank was going to be a problem, but 18mpg has made it a none issue for myself. Great aftermarket stuff out there.

I have a Phazer MTX w/ the 144" on it. I ride about 50/50 as far as trail and boondockin' goes. I love the 144. I find it to be a great track for all around use. The only thing I did to make it more trail friendly was add a couple pair of wheels, and threw some ice scratchers on there. Tons of fun.

ya the xtx is the way to go.i got studs and a pipe and the thing goes good, had a limiter strap brake and the subframe tweaked but i pryed it back straight and has been good for the last season, wont let u down and after 2000 miles of breakin they will run next to or beat any other stock sled out there,i beat up on two 08 cat 1000 all winter,my heated grips roast my hands have to turn them down alot.the trick is when breaking them in ride it like u normally would hard with lots of heat cycles and ur nytro will be fast after breakin

stretched my 121 to 136,probably should've went 144,put a cobra track on it too, that in itself made more difference in handling than any thing else i've done
