Thought I'd do a review for those looking to change tracks. At the end of last season I had just over 9000 miles on my stock viper xtx 141" cobra track so it was time to go track shopping. I never liked the way the lugs fold over on that track especially after putting a turbo on the sled. The market for the 141" tracks is fairly limited and I wanted more trail traction so I decided to put a 2.52" 10 tooth driver on which opens up a lot of other track options in the 144" range. With a 144" track and 10 tooth driver my track adjustment at the rear axle is right in the middle of the adjustment range. On a good snow year I do 90% trail riding so I wanted something that works well on the trail. I was very interested in the Backcountry track but there are times in central Minnesota that even an 1 3/4" track is a lot to keep slides lubed and sufficient snow kick up for cooling. After a lot of research I settled on the Composit C38 which has a 1 1/2" lug. I couldn't be more happy with this choice. Once we had hardpack trails established after our first snowfall this season the first thing I noticed about this track is how easily it grabs traction. I really think the cobra track looses some traction because the lugs fold over so easy. The C38 lugs are very stiff and do not fold over at all. With this track it is so easy to pop the front end over a hole in the trail or coming off an approach. Just tapping the throttle with this track on hardpack seems to bite into the trail immediately and launch the sled. I also like the cornering ability of this track better than the cobra. It is stable cornering but if you want to slide the rear a bit you can do it easier compared to the cobra. In the deep snow I can't really tell a difference with the C38 compared to the cobra so I would say they are similar but I also don't do a lot of off trail riding. With 1800 miles I don't have a single lug that is missing or torn yet. After 9000 miles on the cobra I had 9 lugs ripped off but it's still pretty early to know for sure with the C38, although this is a good start. Probably should mention I don't hold the throttle wide open crossing jagged ice on lakes or in areas where I don't know what's under the snow, so if you ride like that you may have different results. Overall I am very pleased with how this track is holding up. I don't plan on studding so I can't say how this track would do with studs but if you are looking for a better trail track than the cobra I would recommend this one and you really can't beat the price for a new track.
