Hey all

I installed an SLP water line adaptor into my attak and at the same time, took about 2L of coolant from the system. I was assuming that it had 100% antifreeze, and it went off the chart when I measured it at first.

I then added 2L of distilled water with some water wetter as reccomended and bled the system, running the sled until the heat exchangers got very hot, and i did this twice allowing it to cool after the first run. Then took the guage to measure the antifreeze % in the resevoir and got -20C, which is no where near the -53C for a 60/40 ratio. This was done when the coolant was warm to the touch, but NOT hot.

So my question is a two part question. Do canadian sleds really have 100% antifreeze as well? and/or should i just run the sled for a longer period until it all circulates and evens out in the system?? Or is my measurment messed up because of the coolant being warm?

Any help would be great!!

I did the same to mine a few weeks ago and ended with about -35C. 60/40 should give you around
-37C. I was happy with -35. Mine was off the scale as well when I measured it first. I know it says on the guage to measure it when the coolant is cool but not sure how it affects the result if it is a bit warm.

Thanks!
I am going to soon once its cold, and if its still off, then will run the sled for a while until all the coolant is mixxed.
Thanks for the manual btw!

The temp of the coolent does play a role in the reading. I would allow the coolent to fully cool, then remeasure. Also if you have any premix 50/50 coolent around do a test on that as well. This will give you at least an idea if your gauge is working.

Just an update

Ran the sled until both heat exhchangers got hot, then came back a few days later and tested the coolant again, this time nice and cold.

It is now roughly -22C on the guage, so it went up a little, but barely. I am starting to think that its either I need to run the sled for a very long time for all the coolant to circulate and eventually I will get a correct reading of over -45C, or that the stock ratio really isnt 100%

Also, my manual has stickers in the book where the coolant info is, meaning it was added in later, anyone else have this?

I just want to know that I ddnt screw up my sleds cooling!

I'd try what LJ452 is saying...make sure your TESTER is reading correctly...'cause I did the same as you did plus I added a rear heat exchanger and she's testing -40 +/- ;)! you should be fine, for your sticker thing in your owners manual I don't have any what so ever.

Yammahammer485, I am not sure if the situation is similar, but my glycol tester measures to -43C(-45F) and of course when the needle went off the chart, I immediately interpret it as 100%. It could very well be something like 70/30 from the dealer/manufacturer which is -64C(-84F). I doubt it has anything to do with hot or cold, or not circulated enough. I suspect you just have to add a little more pure antifreeze

Its funny you mention this as I was thinking the same thing. So thats what I am going to do, just add some more pure antifreeze, most likely 2L or so.

Also, note attached pic with my manual, this is a canadian sled and this is how my manual comes. There is stickers over prior information, meaning that maybe yamaha started updating their coolant levels.
