Coolant overflow tank level?

I just put a rear heat exchanger on my apex and I filled the coolant reservoir to the level it was at prior to the installation. I forgot to take note of the level in the overflow tank.

So my question is, does anyone know if that should have any coolant in it? And if so how much? I'm thinking of filling it halfway along with my reservoir just to be safe. Is it meant to hold much coolant, or is it strictly for overflow? Any input would be appreciated.

Not sure on amount but make sure you get all the air out of the system by using the bleed screw.

The main tank is filled right to the top. The overflow tank has a fill line on it. I think it is about 1/4 of the way from the bottom.

This may sound dumb but make sure you take the top off of the overflow tank to check it. When I got my new sled home in January I thought the overflow tank was empty, but was only looking throught the bottle. Once I took the top off I could easily see the level. The plastic isnt that opaque. I felt really stupid.

The pressurized tank is made of thicker plastic and is not easy to see through. This is the tank with the pressure cap and it should always be full.

The other tank is the expansion tank and it is easier to see through. There is a "full cold"mark on the side of it that is hard to see. Some guys have highlighted the mark with a black magic marker.

I have found a bright flashlight will "reveal" the level of the coolant. Thanks for your replies.

I usually figure 3/4 on any system, including cars, figuring air will work out, if not will push out what it doesn't want. think tour looking for 1/3 minimum long term
