Cooling Fin, More Top End!!

Just got back from Quebec with some 900 miles. Testing these Cooling fins.
They work very well On the lake at Real Masse I observed a 4 MPH gain on the DM with them installed Cooler running HyFax?

On the trail the temp is running 130 - 140 on the gauge. Whenever there is no snow dust and she starts running on the HOT side, I would steer to the side and scoop up some snow with the Fin and you could watch the Temp come down!

Looks like they would throw a lot more snow than your standard scratchers, and no problem backing up with those Bob are you making those or did you buy them somewhere I might be interested in a couple of sets. I have Simmons on one sled, do they make different strokes for different folks lol.

No problem backing up. I made them at work. If you look closely at the ski I added a piece of 1/4" lexan over the fin to act as a spring. I'm not making them for sale because I don't have access to materials or equipment, but you can copy the idea, I got the idea from Simmons ski's.

Convert, I had those on my 05 RX-1 and they worked really well. They do throw more snow back into the tunnel. I didn't notice any top-end gain, but I didn't do any kind of testing either.

This actually makes it faster? It seems if you have something else draggin in the snow, that it would decrease speed. I must be missing something. I would be interested if it helped. Anyone have any links to something that is being produced like this? Please post them if you do.

Cooler engine=Faster speeds....

probably out weighs the slight drag at high speeds

My guess is that Bob Miller is experiencing a gain in speed due to the additional snow getting in between the sliders and track clips, which reduces friction, hence, faster speed.

I thought it would create more drag also, so I did a test on the lake in front of Real Masse (3/4- 1 mile)

First run with the Cooling Fins on: 112 on the DM.
Second run without the Cooling Fin: 108 on the DM.

I believe it is getting more snow to the Hyfax resulting in less resistance, and your Hyfax will probably last a long time with these installed

i had that problem also!! seems my warrior hates packed trails!! she was overheating again last weekend! i was thinking about adding a rear heat exchanger but i think that looks a lot easier! also i saw a post a while ago about some cable scratchers, might try them also.... glad to see i'm not the only one with that problem! i thought it was just because i was so big?....

I know this is an old post, but what are the fins made from? Aluminum?
