What is the stock gearing and chain combo?
Mine has a 40 bottom and a 21 top gear. The chain is a 70 pitch. The chain seems too long. I can take out the tensioner and get the chain off without removing the gears. The chain seems to long on me.
What's the best chaincase oil to use? How much?

What you have is the stock gearing and chain that comes on all three years of the rx1 mountain, Ken.

Lance,
Stk gearing for 03-05 RX-1 Mtn is 21/40 with a 70P chain. This gear combo is one of those inbetween gear ratios where the 70P seems to big yet a new 68P will not work or in some instances a used 68P might work. Your 70 might be stretched as well.
I use Syn Chaincase lube available at any snowmobile shop and fill to the full mark on the dip stick.

Help!!
Ok, so it is stock gearing.
As for how much to fill the chaincase, mine is dropped and rolled. I have an early MPI 159" tunnel. The dipstick is almost laying flat. If I fill it to the line, there would only be about half an inch in the chaincase. Seems like there should be a little more in there to lube averything???

I just paged through the whole owners manual and could not find a capacity for the chaincase. But if I remember right I thought it was somewhere in the 8-12oz for non-reverse model. That seems about how much I would put in. Yamaha recommends a 75-80 weight SAE gear oil according to the manual.
