Cracked exhaust...

Anyone else have this happen, '08 APEX w/10.000kms I started noticing BACKFIRES on deceleration last year so last night after a good inspection I found out why! :o| if its not the DONUTS its the !@#$ exhaust, man I'm f'n tired of this poor exhaust system!
is it your muffler or your pipes?i drive my sled hard and jump it now/again no issues with muffler>pipes and donuts yes! changed pipes to bender racing, lot stronger than titanium, heavier yes, maybe the weight of a small chunk of tunnel ice. i should check out muffler before the snow falls!!

Its not the HEADERS its the rear muffler, in the centre junction on the muffler part...

My friends Attack with 14000 km's had his replaced this pass spring also had the whole system changed out for the yamaha stainless steel pipes.

You should weld up the entire exhaust with a plate spanning the y-pipe all the way to the muffler part for the bottom and top. This will bridge the gaps between the welds, help prevent flex and gusset the welds.

This is what im doing after my bender crapped out for the second year in a row.

I remember reading about someone on here adding a section of flex pipe to the muffler behind the 2-1 junction.

Does anyone have that link?

Next time mine brakes that is the route I will go.

There is already flex pipes on the head, those flex junctions are hit or miss getting ones that work and ones that collapse and plug the exhaust.

Maybe adding some more rubber where the muffler is mounted or mount the muffler loosly with bolts and lock nuts to allow it to move a little bit might accomplish the same goal.

What was done is where the muffler pipe goes 2-1 at the muffler the person cut off about 4-5" of pipe and welded on a flex pipe there. So now there are the flex pipes on the head and the muffler itself can flex as well. Not sure if you knew what I was referring to.

Good thinking on the rear mount. I may explore that option.

Funny you mentioned that, we were talking about that the other day I remember seeing it on TY w/pics, will see how long this 1 last and if it fails agian I'm going that route...

Yeah I knew what you meant. I just dont trust them darn things had too many collapse on me.

I assume you are talking about those almost mesh looking flex pipes? What about something as stiff as the flex pipes at the head? Wonder if I could purchase one of those and cut off the one end and make adapters to fit?
