cracked oil tank

I put a cfm tank on, but before it came used pc7 (ace hardware) epoxy. Ran it for quite a while with no issues. Better than jb weld. My old tank leaked along the seam.

Hmmm. Wonder if the tank saver kit at Barn of Parts would have prevented this?

Installed tank today. I assume the factory o ring is not used and just use the rubber gasket that came with the tank?

Couldn't find the leak on mine. Best guess is right where the drain plug fitting meets the tank.

Keep an eye on the new tank for seepage around the threaded bolts.

Yes, I think I bought the tank 3..4 years ago, and made my own gaskets, used red permatex to seal, and eventually saw the threads had oil in the root, and after multiple oil drainings experimenting, I saw the threaded holes actually go into the reservoir. I even indicated the gasket surface and filed the yamaha flange flat. Still seeped until I used pc7 around the screw threads. My flange is sort of permanent now, but my screen has been spotless for years so I don't need to remove it. I emailed them about the o ring (they should machine it like the original) but never heard back. And I can always remove the pc7 with a Dremel if I have to. Oil can.and will seep along the tiniest paths...in this case, down.the thread roots, and off the nuts. The gasket can't seal the threads. Maybe I should have removed the studs and sealed them, but when it stopped I left it.

Oil all over the f’loor under my Apex with new tank. I do not recommend this aftermarket piece. I will be ordering a factory tank and rubber mounts from Travis.

I sent them a note when I bought it years ago. It's a well built tank but the gasket won't seal. And I made several out of different material. It needs the o ring groove for sure.

Also, I sealed my original tank with PC7 epoxy. Never seeped again. I ran it for a while before the new one.

Yup Travis' saver kits is highly recommended. Sorry to hear of your issue.

I have same issue. Great tank but why not take the extra time and machine the "O"ring groove

What kind of parts come in the tank kit that Travis sells from Barn of Parts. I have a 2015 & a 2018 Vector, do I need this kit or did Yamaha update these tanks so that the problems have been solved.
