Parked sled in garage running fine. Next time went to start cranks and no start. Quick check reveals no spark. Going to dig in with service manual but I thought I would see if any ideas here. 123 go

So swapped CDI, checked handle bar wiring, front wiring by tool box and swapped headlight relay with main relay and still no spark. Checked pick up coil and stator resistance per manual and compared readings to specs and it has no opens however not the resistance the manual calls for? Checked resistance to my other sled and it matched this one but not the same as what the manual calls for?

No spark on any coils, this makes no sense. Pulled into garage running fine, did not use kill switch just turned key off. It would seem like something stupid simple, but cant find the issue. My buddies and I dragged it up on my trailer and I brought it home to do more diagnosis and where I have more time and tools at home then up at the cottage. Luckily I have two other sleds to ride for now but do want to get this one running again.

Fuses good, coils good, new spark plugs, new battery at start of the season, swapped main relay, the only thing I question is the stator and pick up coil test. I have continuity through them but do not match the resistance the manual calls out. However I took the readings off my running sled and they are the same.

I have looked at wiring for chafes and have not done anything with TORS, in the past when having issues with that it would not take throttle. Will have to get serious with my DVOM looking for opens, shorts etc. Does anyone know if the pick up coil is a VR sensor that can be checked with a DVOM for an AC signal?

So.....After ditching my cheap Matco pocket DVOM I was using that I keep up north, I go home and pulled out my Fluke 88 and went back and rechecked the stator/pick up coil resistances, it appears the pick up coil is bad. Replacement one on order last night and we will see in a couple days what happens.......

Hope that works out for so you can get it back out on the trail where it belongs . ;)!

So replaced the pickup coil this weekend and she fired right up. Was amazed how easy it was, took about an hour to do. Noticed exhaust getting noisy, guess it is time to think about doing the exhaust doughnuts on this one. So if we don't get this snow Tuesday guess I will replace them this weekend waiting for more snow. Was really hoping to save as a summer project but will need something to do if we cant ride.
