While removing air box on my 07 Attack noticed the breather tube inside the air box had an inch and a half split in it. I'm guessing the breather must have froze up and the pressure must have ruptured the tube. Glad it didn't blow out a crank seal but has anyone encountered this before?

Yep, asked the same question of the Dealer when I first opened the airbox on my '07. Made that way so it can still vent if the end gets plugged.

It was something was fixed after some problems in 2003 with the RX-1. In extreme cold conditions, snow dust would build up in the hose and freeze, which would block the tube and oil would shoot out the crank case. By adding the slit in the hose, it prevents ice from forming.

In other words, it is a good thing you have the slit.

Thanks for the education.
God I love this site.

Never noticed the slit in mine... Must be there, I'll have to look next time my air box is apart...
