I wonder if a guy could curl a flare into the OE low windshield without messing it up too bad? Will the color coating pop off?
The low windshields are not very functional. A little bit larger may help, but I'm wondering about rolling a lip onto the top edge to help deflect upwards just a bit better? I can't bring myself to do the Yamaha Mid. The sport stuff lacks the flare for the hands. Looking like a Cat shield may be the answer.

I have used a heat gun on chromed and blacked out shields before to roll the top edge to get better deflection without any problems.
Did it work as well as you had hoped?
Yes the last one was on the low windshield on an apet rtx and a little curl at the top and on the wings moved the air oof the handguards and the top of the helmet at high speeds. You have to be carefull there is a fine line between soft enough to mold and hot enough to melt. I was using an air welder that can go to 800 deg i was probably running it at 220 and holding 2 ft away then slowly moved closer. it was the red chrome shorty. I used a large round dowel to shape it. the upper wings are flat and were easy the side ones are rounded and was a bit more of a fight. I would reccomend using a broken or old one to test on 1st.

Necessity is the mother of invention. Those RTX's were the coldest sled I have ever ridden. I was out alone 1 night at -30 F and did not think I would make it back. my contacts froze in my eyes and hands were like 2 frozen hams!!!!
