Does anyone have a photo of the phazer's cylinder head? Specifically, I am looking for a close up of the squish zone and valve location. Thanks.
I am going to be picking up a head next week.Actually whole motor.I will take a bunch of pics.At 85hp for a 500cc I doubt Yamaha left much on the table for gains but must be something.I plan on sending head to guy I know for porting opinion.Sure would like 100hp without power adders!

Thanks, man. I'm sure there's room for improvement...there always is. I'm going to hit up the dealership for my old engine that was replaced on warranty. I'm especially interested in headwork, and the WPC process for the parts. I also want to look into the thickness of the water jacket to see if a Big Bore piston is possible. I know from personal experience that Wiseco will develop custom pistons with a minimum run of 50.

I am going to "acquire" another head this summer. I dare not mention where (its not hot) but it means I can play with it and still have my old one to fall back on in case of warranty issues. I am in contact with an editor and engine builder from Turbo magazine on another forum who is going to help me maximize the intake and exhaust ports, modify the squish zone and re-shape the valves for better flow. Should be interesting.

This is going to be fun. This guy made a 49cc Honda Ruckus scooter (top speed 42mph) do 57 mph. This is a 33% increase. An additional 26 hp in a phazer would be pretty nice. If they can safely handle up to 140 hp with a turbo, then this should be a nice upgrade without the $5000 price tag.

Here you go.Let me know if you want anything closer up.Does look like valves could be unshrouded some.Definitly room for porting.We need to get rid of those accordion style flex pipes right at head also.Those must hurt power some.Intake valves are Steel Valves.Exhaust are either Titanium or stainless.

Got all the valves out.The exhaust valves are stainless.Retainers also are steel.Motor is for sure built for long term.Definitly some gains to be had here in porting.I couldnt get any decent pics of the overhangs and mismatched ports but they are there.I think when I am done with this I am going to get either Aaen or Ulmer to dyno it.

I will have Millenium take a look at cylinders for a big bore.Not alot of room with headgasket we have.They may not want to deal with it seeing as how our cylinders and case are one piece.I dont think sleeves would work well either.

Thanks C27. That's awesome. I can definitely see some room for improvement. I sent the pics off so the guys can get a feel for what's up. Reshaping the valves stems, unshrouding the valves, P&P, and some Singh Grooves, WPC process. Could be some serious gains here.

I read the article and am still abit confused . So from what I read, those little grooves cut into the head are kinda like putting an aftermarket pipe on a two stoke, right ??? The grooves help the air/fuel mix flow better into the head and somehow flow out better ??? Am I on the right track ???

It allows you to use higher compression on 87 octane. There's a complete burn rather than wasted fuel. Eliminates the "vacuum lock" that occurs when the piston is changing direction and the valves are closed.

I don't think it is possible to re sleeve with a cylinder of this nature, too much volume would be lost for the coolant to work properly. It is more like a car than anything else. IF a big bore piston could be done, the thickness of the sleeve is very important as well as the size of the water jacket. A new head gasket would have to be made as well and stronger head bolts would be a MUST.
Wait till you remove those headbolts.I havent checked torque but its alot.Broke a 12mm SnapOn socket getting them out.Head gasket is two layer metal gasket.
