Cylinder head squish zone

cannondale, what clutching do you currently run (can't remember if it's ours or not). Any air box mods currently? I'm game for dynoing, just give me a few weeks notice so I can try to work you in. We'll set it up with a PCIII and may play with a Ignition Module as well as air box mods, and a trick new air filter setup I'd like to give a try. We can hook it up using a Wideband Commander linked to the PCIII and also linked to the dyno.

Running your clutching(Freeride version)No other mods.I will definitly take you up on that offer.Thank You.

Posted the pics of ported head back in thread where pics of original head are so you can compare.I have complete confidence in Mark Matczaks porting.I am sure will be gains.I think his handle here is snowprophet. We will see though.

I have the cylinder head now and am about to send it away. I'll update you guys again when it gets back from machining.

I wasnt there but I guess at Haydays Aaen heard alot of demand for Phazer exhaust so will be bringing my sled to him to have one developed. Will do a single and dual. Now I just need to get that head on!

Thanks guys for talking Aaen into making a pipe.

Did you notice the difference between the diameter of the exhaust manifold and the diameter of the exhaust post? There's a lot of room to enlarge the exhaust posts. I'll take a snap later today when my wife gets back with the camera.

I doubt it. The exhaust doesn't move once attached to the head. Its just to compensate for a bit of engine movement because the exhaust is basically mounted to the frame of the sled. Check out the carbon circles left behind because of the difference in size in the pipe and exhaust port. I showed this to my friend who is a Yamaha certified mechanic and he was very excited about this. He thinks this sled should fly with a decent bit of porting, milling the head and unshrouding the valves.

Did you see the pics of the head I had ported?Could you take a measurement like I did in pic?I dont have exhaust off so I really dont know how much my porting guy took off but the carbon was there like yours when I sent head out.I get 1.333in after porting as measured.I am glad you are posting since I am so busy and need some encouragement to teardown my perfect good running motor to put the ported head on.Winter is coming soon.Any issues?Am I going to be able to just remove head without removing motor.I really havent even looked into the job yet. Thanks

No sweat, man I'll bust out the micrometer. We're unsure if we can do the head with the engine in. My buddy said he always just takes them out and does it on the bench at the shop.

Ruckus is your buddy in Canada or down in USA thats going to do the porting for you? Iam looking at going down the same road as you guys in the very near future.

Doesn't look like it was ported that much. I'm going to check with my machinist to make sure it can go as large as the exhaust manifold.

I have one friend, the mechanic, who lives here in Corner Brook, Newfoundland who's helping (doing) the install. The guy who's doing the machine work is in LaPlace, Louisiana. I've bought performance parts from him for bikes. His company specializes in speed products for ATV's, Motocross and Scooters. John Capdebosq, JCRacing. 504 559 4550. Although he's never done a Phazer head he said it looks identical to two YZF250 heads together of which he's done many. He also lightens flywheels for incredible acceleration but with the fuel injection on the Phazer there may be multiple pick up points and could be difficult to machine some weight off.

My guy was a little nervous about hitting water even though I told him not to sweat it.Wish we had a junk head to cut up to check thickness. If you could. Try taking the measurement across the two bolt holes since port isnt round.

I think getting at the timing marks might make engine removal necessary or not worth effort of leaving it in.

If you are looking for weight reduction of rotating mass take a look at the gear reduction. It is VERY heavy and I dont get why.It is also hardened.I tried cutting the shot one I have on Lathe and it ruined my bit!

Thanks for helping.Looks like dream sled is on its way!
