Cylinder head tighten

Hello

A friend of mine blow the headgasket at his 2011 Apex. He has a MCX 290 kit, and that kit have a thicker headgasket.
How do you tighten the headnuts ?

In the MCX installation manual it said to tighten the gasket in three steps, 20 nm, 35 nm and 50 nm.

In the Yamaha service and repair manual it says to tighten in two steps, 20 nm, and then some degrees 105-140, depending
what nuts.

What will be the best tighten-system, or doesn't it matter ?
